Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey, we’ve been great thanks! Been up to a lot band wise lately and have plenty to look forward to.
Can you talk to us more about your new track “Mind’s Eye”?
Mind’s Eye is a song to get the listener off their feet. Tasteful sweeping riffs combined with the chugging breakdowns and a sing along chorus makes it one of our most upbeat songs. This is contrasting to the lyrics which reflect on the demons that drag us down. There is, however, a sense of hope and serenity that makes us feel like we can escape it.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not really, it’s more of a general reflection lyrically and in regards to the music it’s influenced by bands like Napoleon.
Any plans to release a video for the track?
No, we decided to release it for fans to stream as one of the promotional tracks for our new EP. We have plans to release a video for a separate song.
The track comes off your new EP Don’t Hold Your Breath – what’s the story behind the title?
Don’t Hold Your Breath is a lyric from one of the tracks. It relates to the expectations we have for the world to be a better place but in reality, it doesn’t always work out that way.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was amazing! Working with Daniel Kerr of Avenue Studios really opened our eyes to the potential our band has in regards to our sound. He had a great role to play in helping us create the sound we envision when writing our songs.
What role does Belfast plays in your writing?
Belfast is the city we always come together to write in. It really has been the home of our initial ideas and with places like Attic Studios, we always have the facilities and space to express our ideas.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Our influences relate to many personal aspects and experiences. We always like to discuss these in a metaphorical way using the the natural elements that are so important to this world. Our lyrics include many references to the sky, the ocean, nature and all we take for granted.
Any plans to hit the road?
Absolutely! We have our own headline Irish tour in July, a few festivals lined up and we aim to gain more touring experience in the UK as we head into next year.
What else is happening next in Dream Awake’s world?
We have the EP to release on August 18th which you can pre-order now from our website and iTunes. After that we plan to have a heavy touring schedule and release more content such as music videos to help promote ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’.
