INTERVIEW: Mischief Night

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Good! We just had our album release show on the 25th and it was great! The Fem Doms, Robot Princess, and Shadow Monster helped us put on a memorable show.

Can you talk to us more about your song “Drive”?

MK: “Drive” is actually one of the older songs on the album. That and “Dark Times” I composed before I even moved to New York.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

MK: I drove a lot for a previous job and it was monotonous to say the least. I was able to write tons of songs along the way including this track. Just a straight ahead rock song.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

I had wanted to do one for “Jaws” actually, but I’m not sure. It took me close to 6 months to do the last video for “With Me Now.”  Either way, it would be a bit.

The single comes off your new album The Great American Worm – what’s the story behind the title?

With song titles, its usually pretty straight forward.

How was the recording and writing process?

That one was recorded bit by bit. We’ve done as much of the recording in our apartment as we can. Drums were done at our friend Randy’s place in New Hope, PA.

What role does Brooklyn play in your music?

It’s a city that motivates, for sure. Always something good to absorb.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

All around. It’s life and observation put to music.

Any plans to hit the road?

We went up to Canada for a spell in March. Mallory goes to Europe in July under her other project The Grasping Straws.  I hope to organize a Mischief Night tour in the future.

What else is happening next in Mischief Night’s world?

MK: I know that I’d like to work on more collaborative tunes in the future. Maybe an EP for now. More shows, meeting other great bands. That’s the best part about all of it.
