Dean Greek is a hip hop artist with an R&B twist from the Bronx with a new single entitled “I’m In Love with America.” “A love song about the good, the bad, and the ugly side of America. Its ups and downs.” Not many rappers are taking this stand in their music and lyrics, but this one is. His lyrics come across as mainstream, but yet have this significant meaning to them. Growing up with a knack for music, Dean Greek soon found himself immersed in it as he interned at labels like Warner, and soon found his way to being an artist. Blending the soul of R&B with the rhymes of hip hop he’s creating a local buzz in New York playing showcases all over the city. And he has other raps to cover.
This comes as a pleasant surprise, especially for an east coast rapper, as it is a laid back, slow groove of a rap that just chills and it gets the point clearly across. “I’m In Love With America” has much potential, and that goes a long way for this low key do it yourselfer from the streets of New York. I like his speed, and this is one of his cuts that don’t bleed any elicit lyrics. It’s all clean and very comically deadpan, as it follows a more serious subject than some of his other raps. The best things to say about it are how positive it is and how good the lyrics are. It is an honest, soothing chant, and it marks a high point for Dean Greek himself. “You gotta be frank,” is what he’s saying. He points to north, south, east and west, telling you to wake up and be grateful instead of taking the low road to hatred and violence. But mostly the country itself, regardless of anyone who comes or goes from the “land of the free, and the home of the brave.” The raps are as tight as can be, as he’s very good at what he does. But the points are more important than anything else, and he’s already established himself anyway. And there is nothing he is preaching that you can’t believe. It’s not extreme or anything, it’s cool, it’s chill but it’s also for real.
You even want it heard by others once you hear it. Dean Greek should be exposed for all he is worth. There’s a higher level to reach and he’s capable of doing it, especially with this. But Dean has other work to explore as well, which keeps to a more limited audience. That’s why “I’m In Love With America” is his break out number for now. Another thing I’m surprised at is that he’s not already signed to one of the too many labels out there. It’s not like he hasn’t been seen by thousands on YouTube, but as one of his song titles suggest, “Whatava.” He still gets around and his time will come. He’s good.
You can also hear Dean Greek on tracks like “Gully Bop” Feat. Dean Greek – Love Di Gyal Dem. And the already mentioned, “Whateva.” And then there is the more controversial “Welcome To New York / Donald Trump vs Ted Cruz.” And this one has more of a gangsta rap approach, but it’s really about rapping. And it’s a good tune which only has a Trump vs Cruz intro. The rest of it goes onto be one of his better tunes, regardless of the lyrics. The female backing vocals are killer. Good is good, and that is all there is to Dean Greek when it comes down to the street. As do all of his raps.
