Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thanks for asking , we are great . Living the dream and working hard every day to play the rock star life in 2017.
Can you talk to us more about your song “In The Face of Defeat”?
This song is about growing up, the struggles we face every day including finding and acknowledging our very own purpose in life . Sometimes the people who influence us the most and shape us into the people we think we want to be , you can find yourself leaving other people behind . It’s easy to feel desperate when you are at your own rock bottom and if you find yourself there we want this song to serve as a shoulder to lean on . We know what it’s like to feel lonely , desperate , on the bottom with no hope and with will and perseverance and hopefully this track on repeat we sincerely hope this song helps our fans and anyone listening to this song get through the struggles of the heart .
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Losing a best friend that I feel might still be around if he knew he had a shoulder to to lean on .
Any plans to release a video for the track?
Oh definitely. There’s a Duet version of this song that will be part of a Deluxe release we’re doing next that has Seth Cooper singing with me . It’s extra amazing so we will do some fun things with this song including a music video .
The single comes off your new album The Process – what’s the story behind the title?
Guilty Crown ? If you’re talking about that song , it’s a play on words for having a black eye . The Guilty crown is a metaphor for a girl covering up her black eye from her romantic partner abusing her with violence. The guilt comes from the pain of lying to your friends. If it’s not bad enough some of these women and men too are being abused but in this case my friend who I will leave nameless who’s story inspired my lyrics had to cover up her black eye with make up . It’s a sad tragedy to not only go through that abuse but to also have to cover it up and lie to your friends out of fear , guilt ,shame and many other emotions that can hurt . This song serves as a reminder to speak up , stand up for yourself and your friends when they do not know how or can not stand up for themselves . We’ve been there , we’ve seen and gone through these experiences and we want this song to help spread a positive message in the rock community .
How was the recording and writing process?
Zack and I ( Dillon Forst ) wrote the record in our bedrooms . It was a blast and the ultimate form of catharsis for both of us.
What role does South California plays in your music?
Provides the air we breathe , shelter and water . The comforts of extremely modern technology.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Growing up as a musician sitting in your room practicing . It takes a certain kind of individual to do that . We took the experiences of growing up and combined it with our influences of Avenged 7 Fold , Atreyu , Underoath , Circa Survive and Thrice and we took our death metal background and my ( Dillon ) pop background and made the concept record “ The Process “ .
Any plans to hit the road?
