Hi VENTS! Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. I have been doing great.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “I Choose This Love”?
Yes, I am very proud to announce the release of my newest single, I Choose This Love, which came out May 1, 2017. I wrote this song last summer as an acoustic love song, and when we were looking at which of my songs we wanted release this spring, this one really stuck out because of its universal message about love. We then got into production and decided to give it a more upbeat pop sound. So far it has come out to some great reviews and support in the industry and in a short time has amassed over 56,000 streams on Spotify in such a short time.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
My friend Robin Ghosh, with whom I write most of my songs, and I were chatting about the fact that everyone wants to be loved, and everyone is looking for love to support them through the good and the tough times. And so it was pretty easy to write the song given that we all do better in life with that kind of love and support, whether it be from a friend, partner, parent …
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes super excited to release the video for this song, which comes out end of May beginning of June. When we were brain storming the storyline of the video, my videographer, Lee Watkins of LMW Photos, and wanted to show a love story that has its ups and downs but the enduring message is the choice to love above all else. Very excited for this one to come out!
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing process is a mix of throwing out words and melodies to match the ideas we have in our heads, until we have the lyrics that tell the story we want to tell. We usually record the demo as soon as we have the song where we want it. The once we choose who we think would be best suited to produce it, we work on ensuring that the sound and vibe fit within our concept. In this case we used a producer I had not worked with before, a young EDM producer, Alex Klingle, and he really did a great job of making it current and radio ready.
What role does Canada plays in your music?
Canada plays a huge role in my music. My main supporters have been Canadian, whether it be radio or Spotify Canada. Radio has been super supportive of me in the past, nominating me as their iHeartRadio Future Star in October and November 2016 at CHR, AC, and Hot AC for my single Skyline (Madlucky Remix) which achieved top 40 on all three formats, and so I am very hopeful they will support I Choose This Love as well. Spotify listeners have also embraced my music, adding I Choose This Love to their new music playlist, giving me new fans and getting my music out there. I also have been fortunate enough to perform throughout British Columbia and Alberta at festivals and gigs, which I love as I get to have actual contact with the crowd and meet some of my listeners. I also have been fortunate enough to get the support of Factor which provides music grants to musicians. I am very grateful for all the support and assistance I get in my own Country! But I do also love my international fan base, which thanks to YouTube has grown tremendously over the past year. I have a growing fan base in Greece where one of my covers was picked up for a cell phone commercial, ans so getting lots of shazams and love from the people of Greece!
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
I have some songs I really love and am in the process of writing more, so perhaps a new album at some point this year, but for sure another single this fall.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
That is top secret shh….. (ha ha)
What aspect of hope would you get to explore on this record?
I am all about hope and love, and much of my music has those elements, very much reflected on my EP Weightless which I released last year. So going forward, for sure there will be hope and optimism, those values are sure better to hold on to than all the negative stuff that is constantly going on around us…
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes I just got back from a successful radio tour out east in Ontario and Quebec, and have a busy summer of gigs and festivals planned in Edmonton, here in my hometown in Vernon, and in and around Vancouver. Excited about that for sure.
What else is happening next in Olivia’s world?
Just continue to make music that I am proud of and do everything I can to get it out there, and always hoping that it will be supported and well received. Lots of song writing, cover videos, and promoting I Choose This Love!
Thank you so much for making the time to interview me. I am very grateful of all the articles that get put out about my music, and for anyone willing to take the time to listen to it, and support it. Have an amazing day!
