Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Under Covers”?
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yes, it was the first big fight my girlfriend and I had. I hoped writing a song would make things better …And it did 😉
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes, it will be out very soon! 😉
The single comes off your new album X-Dreamer – what’s the story behind the title?
Some people stop dreaming. Some people can’t.
How was the recording and writing process?
I wrote Under Covers fairly quickly. In two days. The guitar part came first and the words just sort of fell out.
What role does Canada plays in your music?
If I had to mention influences from Canada I would comment on the immense amount of talent coming out of our relatively small country. There are so, so, so many influential songwriters and musicians. Dallas Green, Lights, Chris Kirby, Hedley, Tim Baker (Hey Rosetta), Big Wreck, Matthew Good, Michael Bublé, K-os, to name a few. Also the folk music of my native island of Newfoundland has coloured my guitar playing in a certain way. People say I have a really authentic swing to my melodies and guitar playing. I don’t hear it like they do but that’s gotta be the East Coast coming out.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
“X-Dreamer”! It’s a collection of 7 tracks that I can’t wait to share. Songs about the human experience I hope everyone will be able to relate to. I’ve been working for a long time on this release and the songs are special for so many reasons. Some I wrote at home in Newfoundland and some were written while traveling to record the dozens of demos that came before deciding on this collection.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We haven’t announced a date yet but we are looking at Fall 2017
Any plans to hit the road?
Oh yes, there’s a tour in the works to support the record. Right now, I hope the focus will be on UK and European dates with selected US and Canadian shows.
What else is happening next in LeRiche’s world?
I am constantly writing so there are always new ideas bouncing around. Never a dull moment especially now that I’ve been travelling so much in support of the new recordings.
