INTERVIEW: Alexander Parsons

Q: Hi Alexander, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

A: I’ve been alright thanks for asking. Also please, call me Alex.

Q: Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Blossom”?

A: Well “Blossom” was a joint effort between me and a producer in Seattle named Ryan Fralick. Although I wrote it and started the project he really brought out a lot in the song.

Q: Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

A: You know inspiration is a funny thing. Nothing really inspired me to write this song, and as a matter of fact it was a while until confident enough to bring this project to Ryan. Anyway, I wrote this song like I write most songs nowadays, I just kept messing around until I found a good idea, and then built on that. One day I was on the couch with my laptop and I wrote the main piano chords you hear in the song. And that was the beginning of the whole thing.

Q: Any plans to release a video for the single?

A: No at the moment. Who knows though…

Q: Why naming the album after this track in the EP?

A: I couldn’t think of a better name honestly.

Q: How was the recording and writing process?

A: It was simple and stripped down. I wrote the entire EP on GarageBand and recorded the piano on the title track with like a really lame patch cable. After that met with Ryan and he helped me finish it.

Q: Blending your influences -Owl City and Skrillex- together in such a successful way can be a tough thing to do I am guessing –

A: That’s an interesting subject. Yes, I think that listening to Owl City and Skrillex for as long as I have has influenced me, but I don’t think about that when I’m producing or writing. I just write, and produce, and that’s it pretty much.

Q: how does the process for balance them together goes?

A: The process for blending them together hmm…. Well like I said before I don’t really have my mind on that when I’m producing, but I do think that it interesting how different influences can blend together to help you create a new “sound.”

Q: Does one influences tends to shine out the most depending on the feel you are looking to convey with X single?

A: If I had never listened to Skrillex before, I’m sure this release would sound different. I had never listened to Owl City, It would surely sound different. I can’t say who shines more, but I do know all my influences and artists I like to listen to have played a big part in creating my own music.

Q: Where else did you find the inspiration for the music?

A: I found inspiration in boredom.

Q: Any plans to hit the road?

A: I would certainly love to tour someday, but for now I don’t have the following or the money to do so.

Q: What else is happening next in Alexander Parsons’s world?

A: A lot of things are happening. I’m finishing up my next release, I keep practicing piano, and I’m thinking about writing a punk album.
