Hi Lorena, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey! Thank you so much for having me. I’ve been really, really great!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Paintings”?

‘Paintings’ was written by Andres Marin and I. One night we realized our guitarist Raunak wasn’t coming to rehearsal because I forgot to confirm with him. So Andres and I were both on a stoop in Williamsburg like ‘What now?’ Andres suggested we have a writing session. We wrote ‘Paintings’ within the hour.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Unfortunately, yes, a long relationship had run its course. ‘Paintings’ came about in a time where I was battling with self-worth. I had made some decisions that completely changed my life, and I had to really reassure myself that the world will always paint you one way, but you have to stay strong to your beliefs with the hope that these decisions will someday show that they’re the right ones. Now, looking back, I definitely have no regrets.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I definitely have plans, but it’s top secret right now, so I can’t say anything!

The single comes off your new EP Call Me – what’s the story behind the title?

‘Call Me’ is actually the title track off the EP. This track was written in my bedroom while I was attending University in Florida. I was young and distressed over someone not calling me! Oh, young love!

How was the recording and writing process?

Pretty incredible! These songs were finished before we approached Tony Black (Producer) to record.

Some of these tracks are mine, and some I wrote either with Andres Marin (drums) or Raunak Mukherjee (guitar).

Tony was able to keep the essence of our ideas while enhancing them. He’s a great producer with an incredible ear, he helped get my energy from a live performer to a studio/recording artist. Plus, most sessions ended with sushi. You can’t go wrong there!

What role does NYC plays in your music?

NYC is a beast, inspiring me to be my own version of that beast. There’s this confidence and self-awareness necessary to even survive here. But, if you get too confident, this city will bring you right back down. Sometimes I get carried away by the daily hustle that I forget this incredible city is around me. I stop, look around, and am immediately overwhelmed this exists – we exist.  This city is my constant reminder to be fearless and humble.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

I find inspiration in the music. I usually have to hear a riff looped and the chord’s colors will bring a certain power from which a wave of melodies, rhythms, and themes just emerge. In retrospect, I realize that the song was influenced by an event that may have happened yesterday or years ago. I try not to think too much about it, instead, I block my own thoughts and criticisms and let it be. It is what it is.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! This summer we’ll be doing a little northeast UStour hitting up Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and D.C.!

What else is happening next in LORENA’s world?

Stay tuned for our next single being released this month and our EP Release in late June!
