Hi Kudakwashe, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi, I’ve been well, thank you.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Bottom of Glass”?

It was spontaneous. I remember us visiting one of our team members in Croydon. We decided to work on some Ideas so we started frantically looking for a studio and everywhere was booked. Eventually we gave up and just went into a pub, luckily they has a free room for hire and we booked two days and just set up our equipment in there. Our producer was frustrated and annoyed with a project and just before he deleted his project played us what is now the instrumental of the song.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Not really. We were just having fun and it all just naturally happen I can’t remember any of it being planned we just ended up with the song done.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes the video is out now via GRM Daily. It was directed and filmed by Simon Stolland who is a very talented vidiographer. His idea  really brought the song to life.

How was the recording and writing process?

Like I said… we were randomly in a pub in Croydon. It was all spontaneous and we didn’t really plan anything. It’s funny when I think back to it but I like those types of experiences. There was no objective or time limit it was just a bunch of guys trading ideas.

What was it like to work with Hiltz and what did he brought up the table?

When we left London we had half of this song done and I just couldn’t get the energy I had when I first recorded it and couldn’t figure out how to finish it. I like the vibe he brings out in his songs. He managed to do the same with this song effortlessly. It was good to work him. He’s one of those people that get it so I didn’t have to explain what I needed him to do he understood the song and what was missing and added what it needed to be finished.

What role does Kendrick Lemar and Drake plays in your music?

The names above are in my opinion the best at what they do in our life time. They are an inspiration because both show what can be accomplished and how music can change perception and also shift our generations conversation. Both did it without the need of roll playing being gangsters which is why they resonate with who I am much more than other artist I listen to.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Im creating a lot of music but I can be fussy so it usually takes a lot longer that it needs to to finish things. There’s a lot that can be put out but it’s about timing and quality over anything else.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

No release date just yet but the title for my e.p will be R.O.M.E which is short for recollection of my emotions.

Any plans to hit the road?

No. not yet, I want to complete a body of work filled with songs that I feel excited to share with people. I would rather do that than force music on people that I’m not completely 100% happy with.

What else is happening next in Illusion’s world?

There’s a lot of idea but right now I’m in my writing and recording phase. Bringing all the ideas to life and then seeing how they resonate with people and then I might do something fun with the videos.
