Portland-based, The Builders and the Butchers are set to release a new single on Badman Recording Co. on the 9th of June 2017. Watch here
‘No Grave’, the follow up to the recent ‘Never Tell’, is a blistering slice of Americana and one of the many highlights from the bands forthcoming new album ‘The Spark’. Released on vinyl, CD and available digitally, the band’s fifth album features ten tracks and is due on the 30th of June 2017.
Although very much a Builders record at heart, this collection features a wider array of sounds and more shorter, impactful songs than before. They’ve spent the last five years writing and recording the music and a year mixing, the longest process of any Builders’ album to date.
With several band members now living out of state (Justin in Colorado, Willy in Malta, Harvey in Washington and Ryan and Ray in Portland), many parts were recorded remotely. Drums and much of the electric guitar were recorded at Revolver Studios and the rest was laid down piece-by-piece and mixed by Edgar McCrae at his home studio. Influences for the record range from Tom Waits to The White Stripes.
The Builders and The Butchers formed in 2005 and feature a line up of Ryan Sollee (lead vocals & guitar), Willy Kunkle (bass, guitar, vocals & percussion), Justin Bair (drums, backup vocals & percussion) and Harvey Tumbleson (mandolin, banjo, guitar, vocals & percussion). They’ve since gained a strong and ever growing following after years of playing anywhere and everywhere and are now recognized as one of most exciting live bands in the Pacific Northwest.
The band toured throughout the US and Europe from 2007-2012 playing music festivals, such as Sasquatch and Lollapalooza, and acting as support for Portugal. The Man, Heartless Bastards, Amanda Palmer and Murder By Death. To coincide with the album release, The Builders and The Butchers will be playing the following shows.
