Hi Vanisha, welcome to VENTS! Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Skinny Jeans”?

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song? What inspired me to write skinny jeans, is actually another song of mine. I wrote a song called Poppin bottles, I was inspired by how in the early 2000s, the music videos included a sneak peak of the artists next song.  So with poppin bottles, I wrote it so that I could do a music video the same way. The end of poppin bottles is the pre chorus of skinny jeans!

How was the film experience?

Filming the video was really fun! Of course with anything that happens, there were a few hiccups but we made it work and it came out amazing!

What was it like to work with Sada James and what did she brought up to the table?

It was interesting, we haven’t actually met, I found her on youtube and reached out and .. well you know the rest.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was fairly quick. I didn’t plan on writing the song but when I found the produced and heard the song, my hands started moving on their own, they knew exactly what they were supposed to do and the song ended up writing itself.

How has your upbringing influence your music?

My family has always been a very musical family. My father being a retired dj, and then starting a record label and my mother helping him out in the process. I always met different artists and had different influences throughout my life, but my family gave me that freedom to choose to have this be my life by giving me the ability to experience it from a young age.

What role does Tampa plays in your music?

Tampa plays a huge role in my music because there aren’t many artist from tampa who are trying to do the same as me and they aren’t really supporting each other as well. That does nothing but increase my drive to show the world that they shouldn’t sleep on tampa, we don’t only make dance music down here: we have a whole variety of talent that they can choose from!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Of course! Im working on an album right now, so theres lots of new music on the way that I hope everyone will love just as much as my team and I do! Its called no genre due to the fact that I cant be confined as just a rapper, im an artist, an entertainer. And I believe youll see that in the album.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

There isn’t a set release date as of yet, if it were up to me the album would have dropped like yesterday.

Any plans to hit the road?

Oh I hope so! Id love to go on tour and perform for my fans, but its up to them. Let me know if you want me in your city you guys!

What else is happening next in ChevyGurl’s world?

In the ChevyGurl world?  Im working on not only my music but myself as well. Balancing music and a social life and still trying to make sure I have time for myself is a hard thing to do, but im learning. Im still young so I have a lot of room to grow. Just know that you can expect more music from me, so don’t be surprised if you see me on your tv screen!
