Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Loved Up”?
Loved up is a collaboration by Dance producer/remixer Kwarren,Songwriter/Producer Winston Sela and myself.
I was given the track by Producer Kwarren, it was just a track he was not doing anything with as Dance music is really his forte, however him being from caribbean origin via Grenada, he had just had a vibe for reggae and this was him just expressing that vibe through music. However with no reggae artist in sight when he originally produced the track, he took the chance to let me write to it as I had a knack for writing was from Trinidad and I was already doing some work via his studio.
Now I’m just a hopeless romantic at times and when I hear certain chords or keys they just send me to places. Loved up is just one of those songs that did that. I fell in love with the chords and before I knew it I had written the hook ‘Loved up by you’. I initially recorded a demo idea however as I was working with Winston at the time I felt that i should take the opportunity to work with him and ask for his input as I might never had got the chance again. Best thing I ever did. The song was transformed completely into the masterpiece that it is now.
However I took a lot for me to be convinced to release the song, we all knew the song was special however I couldnt be inspired to release it as I knew it would take more than just me to get the world to hear this song. So I saw the effort as hopeless and didnt bother even trying. Until one day a client of mine I was doing social media for heard the song and begged me to release it if he could help. That client was a lingerie entrepreneur called Tony Ram, He’s been helping ever since.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I’d like to think that a special lady in my life pushed my ideas a little bit.
However we demoed at least two drafts of this song before it became what it is now, Only one version was released of it before it is what it is now.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes very much so, can’t wait to get it done actually.
How was the recording and writing process?
Recording and writing with K Warren and Winston Sela is always great and educating and Fun. They’re a complete joy to work with.
What role does Trinidad plays in your music?
My music in some ways radiate heat, cool breezy overtones, bouncy rhythms and carnival vibes. Though the origins of my work is reggae, a few stand out songs have Trinidad influence in them. Trinidad being where I was born, always have a place in my music and im always lookin for Trini collaborators (nicki menage maybe) or new producers who can go where I want to go with music.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes the second and third singles are ready and waiting and we cant wait to release them.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Cant give away that yet!
Any plans to hit the road?
We hit the Hard Rock Cafe on the 8th May and it was amazing, that set ideas off for a tour, plans are in the making but cant announce any dates yet.
What else is happening next in Kojo Rigault’s world
I’ll be on the hunt to find ‘the one’ to star in the video for ‘Loved UP’.
