Hi Tape Machines, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi there! Great thanks, we’re so thrilled about our first release!
First of all, there isn’t much about you online yet. Who are you then, where’d you come from and what would you like for our readers to know about you?
So when we started “Tape Machines” the plan was to be super anonymous and never get personal and just let the music talk for us. But then we realised if people hear the story behind the music, the bond to it gets stronger. So we’re trying be more open. With that said we’ll never be screaming for the attention to be directed straight at us instead of our music.
Basically, we’re two laidback guys from Stockholm who has a kind of a nerdy, obsessed relationship to music. We can’t imagine our lives without it and have devoted hours upon hours in many studios. As the year’s gone by, we both individually have seen how all our preconceptions about the music business one by one has been totally biased. We’ve also notice how fast it’s changing. You could say that the stars aligned when we first said: “hey – why don’t we make music of our own?”. It was obvious that it is the right time for it. Before that moment, we had only been doing music for others, never for ourselves. We hope we can use all the knowledge we got from years of watching other people making decisions about their music and careers. One thing that we think divides us from many artists is that we have absolutely no prestige. We both share the same passion for not complicating things and to have the music as the no1 focus and not worrying about our latest picture on Instagram not getting enough likes… We only want to release uncompromised, good music.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Dirty Linen Sheets”?
We think there’s a cool vibe to it. It’s warm and punchy at the same time with excellent lush vocals from a girl who wishes to be anonymous.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Dirty Linen Sheets is about that one night stand that you wake up from and suddenly realize: there is more here than just the satisfaction you get from being close to someone. You could interpret “dirty” as something that has to do with sexual fluids(haha), but the picture we had when we wrote it was of a morning becomes afternoon, an afternoon that becomes a new morning and all of a sudden, you’ve been living in bed together, just because you don’t want that one night to end. A never ending one night you could call it.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There are plans about making a lyric video since we have friends who make great films like that. But in future releases we hope to do videos with cool stories in them.
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing and recording was kind of easy and natural. Which is often the case when a good song is written. Simon (one half of Tape Machines) came up with a simple track idea and Fredrik (the other half of TM) polished it into what it is today. The girl who’s singing came up with most of the lyrics and among them was “Dirty Linen Sheets” which we immediately felt should be the title.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes! We are currently working on our new single called “Stupid”.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
2nd of June.
Any plans to hit the road?
No plans yet – we must release more music first!
Why should people pay attention to Tape Machines? What’s special about you?
Because we believe the listeners can expect no compromises in every release we do. No consideration about our music being too trendy, too simple our anything like that. What we want to give the listener is a vibe and we don’t care how this is accomplished.
What else is happening next in Tape Machines’ world?
In the beginning of June, a song called “Color Of You” is released by the artist Margaret which we are featured on, so we’re really looking forward to that.
