Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Together”?/Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I’d just moved back to Stockholm from Berlin, the winter nights were dark, cold, lonely, I was missing everyone I’d left behind in Germany and frantically listening to FKA Twigs and Låpsley on repeat. One night I’d just started writing ‘Together’ which turned out to be a song about my fear of losing someone very dear to me.
How was the recording and writing process?
My process for write and produce is that I start out by just scribbling down a lot of ideas and then try to visualize how I want it to sound and feel like. Thereafter I start writing the lyrics and then it just goes on quite naturally from there. I work alone in my home studio and actually this track went super smooth – everything was just so easily and I managed to put it together from first idea to mastered track over just a week!
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Oh yes, I have so many tracks already lined up just waiting to find time to release them! Last year I had such a productive and fun summer writing so many songs. Can’t wait to share them all.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
No next release date set yet but next EP should probably be released late summer.
How do you think the official video complements the song and why?
This music video is something I really longed to do with an old friend of mine. We grew up together in the same neighborhood and went to the same school for like ten years. He has a history of downhill biking and filming movies and I have been doing music since like forever (I think since I began to speak…). Last year we have matched our interests and started creating music videos together. And it’s so much fun! In the end I think the video really complements the song in the sense that it really captures the mood of the track and helps visualize the feeling that I tried to write about.
Any plans to hit the road?
Nah, let’s see. I feel it’s so much fun producing and I am focusing on that.
Why should people pay attention to SQRD? What’s special about you?
One thing that I’m really proud and what I think makes my music unique is that I have a unique sound that I’m able to create since I do everything on my own, from writing, singing to producing and mastering.
What else is happening next in SQRD’s world?
I’m of course working on new tracks but have also during the last year been travelling a lot and got many new influences both musically and personally! I have been especially fond of Middle Eastern traditional music after spent a lot of time in Saudi Arabia.
