INTERVIEW: Cade Thompson

Hi Cade, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

-I have been doing really well actually. Busy balancing high school life with music life, but I love it all!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Treasures”?

-My latest single ‘Treasures’ came out February 3rd 2017 on all streaming services. The actual recording of ‘Treasures’ came together in my home town of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and thankfully was a smooth process.  It has been cool to see people impacted by the inspirational message that this song has for any and all people.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

-This song started with a melody in my head, then I sat down on my guitar as I started playing the hook/melody…it was put on my heart to write a song that proclaims that we are all children of God, we are all His sweet treasures.

How was the film experience?

-The film experience was a blast! We honestly kind of just went for it. We started on the streets of downtown Sioux Falls. We wanted to have many different people represented in the video so we just started singing, recording and talking with people. It was a chilly, windy but sunny day and then it was almost miraculous when it started snowing big flakes while it was still sunny out. #onlyinsouthdakota

It didn’t take long for the visual arts producer to put it all together and we are super pleased with the result.

How was the recording and writing process?

-I wrote the song in one evening and easily finished it the next morning, after revisions we went into the recording process. The entire song was recorded in less than 48 hours. We tracked vocals, then the next morning it seemed as if everyone we needed was in town and able to show up to finish the rest of the tracks

What role does South Dakota plays in your music?

-To me the state of South Dakota represents the heart of America with many cultures represented in my community. Out of that appreciation for all walks of life and the struggles that go with that,  flows the heart of my music.

How has your faith have influence your music in general?

-Without my faith, my music would not be rooted in such a strong heart and passion honestly. I would not have the depth of inspiration for my music without my faith and all that is made up of.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

-This single is not my last. I am excited to say that I am currently working on a new EP and began writing and recording this week. It will have a pop flare to it. Release date is pending, as is the title—that will depend what songs end up on the EP. It is a lengthy process, but I am loving it all so far.

Any plans to hit the road?

-I was on tour in February along with Remedy Drive and I really enjoyed that so I expect that to make a tour happen again! I plan on playing at some festivals this summer as well.

What else is happening next in Cade Thompson’s world?

-My plan is more writing to get songs out there for my fans and I would love to be more consistent in putting a few more covers.
