INTERVIEW: DJ/Producer/Multi-Instrumentalist filous

Hi filous, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m doing great, thanks! Thanks for having me!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Goodbye”?

Working on “Goodbye” with Mat Kearney was very inspiring and a true learning experience. We worked on the song in Nashville, which has a nice vibe and it all came together very naturally.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Mat wrote the first version of the song and sent it to me, asking if I would be interested in collaborating with him on it. Production-wise I was really inspired by the Nashville vibe, it’s such a creative city!

How was the film experience?

I flew to Nashville to shoot the video with Mat Kearney – it was really important to me to make the video there, as it played such a large role in the song making process. The shoot itself was a lot of fun, the director and the crew were very professional. It’s also really nice to get out of the studio every once in a while and break the routine a bit.

What was it like to work with Mat Kearney and how did that relationship develop?

It’s a funny story actually. Mat hit me up on twitter and we chatted for a while. We had a Skype session a while later, where he asked me if I was up for collaborating with him at his studio in Nashville.

Does your approach changes when you are working with someone else than when you are working on your own original material, say, alone?

Who you work with and the dynamic you’re working in always plays a central role in the music making process. The musical approach definitely changes all the time with every collab, and every time you learn something new.

What role does Austria play in your music?

It’s not so much the location as it is the people I meet here that inspire me. We have a lot of talented musicians in Austria, and it’s always great to meet people who are on the same journey.

You are also known for playing over 18 instruments, how does this knowledge works in your advantage as a musician?

I think actually knowing how to play at least one Instrument is very important to be able to make music in a natural and authentic way. It gives you a lot more possibilites to express yourself musically.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

Yep, there are new songs coming and I can’t wait to share them with everyone!

What else is happening next in filous’s world?

Good question, I wish I knew! Keeps it exciting, though!
