INTERVIEW: Eda Wolf

1. Hi Eda Wolf, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi, thank you very much! We are both doing great!

2. Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Rough Terrain”?

So, we released ’Rough Terrain’ on April 21st, two years after coming out with our first EP ”Slow Speed” in March 2015. It took a while to release anything after that because we wanted to really hone our sound and material before we released anything new. Emiliano and I both feel more confident, and that we’ve finally found our voice, so we’re pretty excited to start releasing new music.

3. Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I went through a period when I was dealing with a lot of problems and emotions, and was having a hard time processing it all. It was easier to retreat and spend time alone than to face other people and risk needing to talk about it. I wrote a lot of songs during that time, and ’Rough Terrain’ was the one where I really tried to change my outlook and attitude in order to pick myself up and move forward.

4. Any plans to release a video for the single?

We’ve been planning out a video, and brain storming ideas, but nothing concrete has been set up yet.

5. How was the recording and writing process?

I brought ’Rough Terrain’ to Emiliano and after fine tuning some spots together, and recording some demo vocals, I’m pretty sure he had a track ready in like the next 24 hours or less. We both get pretty excited about working on new material, so that’s the way it usually goes. Recording it was a great experience as well. I tend to need a little bit of time to get comfortable in the studio, and Emiliano’s very patient and supportive, and remembers to bring snacks. We work really well together, so everything is pretty smooth and fun. Unless I get hungry and Emiliano hasn’t had his coffee.

6. What role does Finland plays in your music?

Finland is a big part of my life, and who I am. My parents are actually not Finnish but I was born and raised there, and I absolutely adore the country, especially since living far away in New York. It’s one of those things that’s just a part of who I am, so it must come out in the music too, probably in my lyrics sometimes.

7. Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Emiliano and I have a lot of material that we’ve worked on in the last two years, so yes. We’re trying to make the most of releasing ’Rough Terrain’ before coming out with the next tracks, but we are definitely planning on it. We actually can’t decide on the next song we’d like to release, hahah.

8. Any tentative release date or title in mind?

As of now, no release date nor title. We’re trying to really map out what kind of image we want to portray with our music before choosing which song to release next. But we’re getting there!

9. Any plans to hit the road?

Well, actually Emiliano found some really cheap flights to Helsinki in September, so we’re kind of toying around with the idea of playing some shows in Scandinavia around that time. Hopefully we’ll be able to work something out!

10. What else is happening next in Eda Wolf’s world?

We’re gonna be playing a single release show on June 8th! Emiliano came up with an amazing piece of merchandise that I am so excited to show everyone, so stay tuned for the details of the show. Beyond that, we’re just going to keep working on new material, and hopefully successfully releasing it too!
