17th Annual JOEY RAMONE Birthday Bash To Take Place May 19th @ NYC’s Studio at Webster Hall

Before succumbing to lymphatic cancer April 15th, 2001, cultural icon, and front man of the Ramones, Joey Ramone had been planning another of his infamous bashes for his 50th birthday. He’d asked his mother, Charlotte Lesher, and brother Mickey Leigh to promise they’d throw a huge party to celebrate the occasion, regardless. The new millennium

JOEY RAMONE BIRTHDAY BASH has since become an annual tradition, and, in it’s 17th year, one of NYC’s most beloved annual events. This year’s Bash will take place on Friday, May 19th, Joey’s actual Birthday, beginning at 7 pm at the Studio at Webster Hall in New York City.

HEADLINING this year’s event:  for the first time in NYC, Joey’s former band-mates, drummer Richie Ramone and bassist CJ Ramone , will be playing TOGETHER,  in a trio formed just for this occasion called The Love Triangle, with Mickey Leigh on guitar. They’ll perform several select songs from the seminal Ramones albums Leave Home and Rocket to Russia, both of which turn 40 this year. Plus, a performance of all songs from both LP’s will be played by Richie Ramone, Clem Burke, Andy Shernoff, Ed Stasium, Walt Stack, and many more.

Also being honored is David Peel, the proto-punk icon who passed away earlier this year and whose band David Peel & The Lower East Side had performed at previous Bash events. The Accelerators, Joff Wilson, Bill Connor and Koshek Swaminathan will take part in his Bash tribute. Performances from The Cuts and LES Stitches will also round out the night.

Joey Ramone passed away in April 2001 after a seven-year battle with Lymphoma; he had a history of encouraging up-and-coming bands in New York’s downtown music scene by showcasing them at his special “Joey Ramone Presents…” events.  Since Ramone’s passing his brother and mother carried on the tradition “by featuring bands that make great music and getting together some of Joey’s friends to celebrate him on what would otherwise be a sad, somber day,” Leigh explained.

The Studio @ Webster Hall is located at 125 East 11th Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenue, NYC. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the show will begin at 7:00 pm.
