INTERVIEW: JV and TEEJ

How would you classify your music?

Hip Hop/Party Hop, with an old school flavor.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

Dre and Snoop no question, they had us from day 1.  Biggie and the whole Bad Boy family played a big part in our influence as well.  A lot of the Golden Era rappers like Nas, LL Cool J, Tribe and Busta are still on the playlist today.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

We really want them to catch a good vibe.  We are all about having a good time no matter where you are or whats going on, and we try to push that through our music.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

Its bleak to say the least.  Not much going on, and most people need it to be on Billboard before they even listen or accept it.  it’s a constant struggle, and we are working really hard to change that.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

Too many to mention.  Been to a bunch, and they all stand out in their own way.  We love the anticipation of taking the stage, the vibe from the crowd and the energy in the air.  Sometimes its like you can touch it.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

Its probably easier to name the least favorite.  Each song is part of the story, and becomes a favorite at one point of the creative process.  But right now, “Turn It Up” is the favorite I would say.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

I think we have really stepped up on he production side of our music, and have really tuned our ear a bit more in the past year.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Another tough one, because its hard to choose just one.  Our range of interest and influence is so diverse, that it could be anyone from the Beatles to Prince.  If it was dinner, it would have to be a banquet so we could fill the house!

What’s next for you?

More of the same.  Continue to make music and enjoy the journey.
