Can you talk to us more about your latest single “You Know What It’s About”? We had a blast recording with Mannie Fresh for “You Know What It’s About”. We hope this song gets you hyped and becomes the anthem for Summer 2017. It gets you moving!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song? The song is basically just the tale of a guy trying to romance a partner. It’s just a commentary on two consenting adults trying to have some fun together.
How was the filming experience? We had a day to film it and luckily we were at an old skating rink that had alot of cool locations already inside of it. Our fans came out and partied with us which was really memorable. It was a long day but we were really thrilled with how it came out.
The single comes off your new album BOSS – what’s the story behind the title? Boss is not only the title of the album but the title of one of our songs on the album. Throughout the album we talk alot about the different dynamics of relationships. From committed relationships to the hook up culture, we are really just exploring modern love. We also try to celebrate all the BOSS women in our life and how inevitably they control our destinies.
How was the recording and writing process? It was a total collaboration from start to finish. We all had ideas on how it would go, and it gradually morphed into this entirely new creation. All the guys worked hard to make something fresh and by the end of it all we gained a new appreciation for the songs.
What was it like to work with Mannie Fresh and how did that relationship develop? Mannie brought such a deep well of creativity and clear point of view to the album. He would take one minor guitar riff and blow it up, basically finding the gems and polishing them. We’ve always admired him and when we had the chance to work together we jumped at the opportunity,
How much did he influence the album? The songs were already written, but he breathed new life into them for sure. His production knowledge is amazing. We had a great time trying different things and I think our collaboration is really evident throughout the album. I like to think it’s the best of what we do and what he does.
Any plans to hit the road? We are currently on a national tour that will take us from New York to California and all points in between. Check out our tour schedule on flowtribe.com.
What else is happening next in Flow Tribe’s world? We’re in the process of finishing our studio in New Orleans and bringing more great music to the world on a more frequent basis.
As we said we’ll be on the road continuously, so make sure to catch us this Summer and beyond. It feels wonderful to just take a moment and appreciate all the hard work we put into BOSS. Hope you enjoy it!
