INTERVIEW: The Suburbs

Hi Guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Fantastic! Busy.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Hey Muse!”?

Yes. It’s the first single off our new 10 song album (also titled Hey Muse!) Radio around the country is already picking up on it, and we are thrilled!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The melody came to me in a dream (true story). I was staying at my girlfriend’s house and had to dig up a toy piano in her kid’s playroom to record it on my phone before I forgot it.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Done! Check YouTube.

Why naming the album after this track in particular?

I was intrigued by the idea of a rock version of an Epic Poem (which usually starts by invoking the Muse) but sort of dumber.

How was the recording and writing process?

A lot of songs have been flowing through me. We started right after “Si Sauvage” came out in 2013. It’s always a blast to record. Steve Price was invaluable.

What made you want to go the crowdfunding route

No labels are chasing us with cash to invest. But we like the control we get, and were very pleasantly surprised to learn the fans really want to be involved. The whole thing is more personal. And we get to hire our own team.

How has time (40+ years already) have worked on your advantage and help you grow as a band?

We’ve grown through and survived the drama and matured as musicians. It’s all good.

Would keep up with the 80s rock vibe or are you moving on to modern sounds on this material?

Everybody writes from their experience, and my formative years were 70’s and 80’s, so… But we’ve also kept our ears wide open all this time.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yep! We are taking this record as seriously as if we were back on Polygram or whatever. The Suburbs are a viable touring working band. Check our website.

What else is happening next in The Suburbs’ world?

Gotta start recording the next album!!!
