Q: Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
A: We’ve been AWESOME!! Thanks for having us!
Q: Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Ghost Town”?
A: We’re pretty excited to get this one out, Ghost Town is a satirical look at the abuse of power by those in it, a rock ‘n’ rock fuck you to governments impeding everyday freedoms. It also has a rocking bass line, stomping drums, sweet guitar riffs & whaling vocals.
Q: What is the inspiration behind this song?
A: Lyrically the track is inspired by current political climates specifically a number of recent laws passed in Sydney which bit by bit take away simple everyday freedoms disguised to protect us from a few.
Q: How was the recording and writing process?
A: It was amazing. Musically the song came together quite quickly & lyrically it was a subject matter we were all keen on presenting. Will was the finally piece of the puzzle & thanks to his vision we had the opportunity to try a whole bunch of sounds & ideas which ultimately gave everyone a lot of confidence creatively. It was fun to forget about the final product & just luck around with all.
Q: What was it like to work with The Reuben’s and how did that relationship develop?
A: Will had been to a few of our gigs along with mutual friends. After hanging out & chatting music it was pretty clear we wanted to work on a track with him. Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in the music world & forget why you even wanted to write music in the first place but Will just had a similar idea of why we should be there & it was a no brainer to work on something together.
Q: What is it about the 60s that you find so fascinating?
A: The 60s-esque sound was something we more or less stumbled across. I think we all enjoy the fun flavours it brings & definitely draws comparisons between more melodic, memorable vocal parts. Also, who doesn’t love The Beatles, The Kinks, etc.
Q: How’s your new EP coming along?
A: We’ve decided to steer clear of the EP for now & jump with the recent trend of releasing singles. We’ve got a number already finished & more in the works. We’re aiming to have a new one out every couple of months. Exciting times ahead!
Q: Would you be exploring other elements of 60s music throughout this new material or are you moving towards other styles?
A: There definitely continues to be some 60s themes running through the tracks specifically through the vocal melodies. The tunes also continue to get heavier the more we write. There are some killer tracks coming up that we cannot wait to show everyone!
Q: What other aspects of popular culture would you be tackling down on this new record?
A: The new tunes, whilst generally a dirty fuzzed out party, deal with some pretty intense & close to home subject matter; Depression, mental illness, loneliness, dealing with all these in self-destructive ways.
Q: Any plans to hit the road?
A: Once back home we take off on an east coast tour of Australia & hopefully begin locking in our return to Canada!
Q: What else is happening next in Silver Love Club’s world?
A: Writing, recording & touring! We want to keep tell the world our story, we love the studio time & there’s nothing better than playing our tracks for people. Bringing a mad party to any venue!
