INTERVIEW: The Weight of Atlas

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey! Well, busy! Busy, recording the new album and getting ready for our new single. We’re very excited. (- Lewis Brodie/Aaron Corrigan)

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Art of Letting Go”?
It’s coming out 5th May, on iTunes, Spotify and many more. It’s a different shade for us up until this point, but I think it shows where we are now and how we’ve matured, hopefully. (Aaron Corrigan)

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
‘The Art Of Letting Go’ is a journey. The message of this song is essentially one of hope. It’s about realising that whatever the circumstance you find yourself in be it a career, relationship or any other aspect of your life. In my experience it was easy to accept things for how they were, that it wasn’t in my power to change anything. I think that’s a really dangerous thing. The reality is that change doesn’t have to come in the form of a miracle it’s something you can do in the moment but it requires a strong resolve. That’s what this song is to me. ( – Gavin Duncan)

How was the film experience?
Filming was nuts, we actually recorded two music videos in 4 days! With our good, and talented friends in PW Media, Paul & Dave Wood. They travelled up from England and stayed with us in Dundee, we were running off no sleep up and down picking up smoke machines and stuff. It was exhausting. It was amazing to film in my old high school and stuff, then to show off nice parts of Dundee from the bottom to the top with fancy drone cameras. Just great experience, and I can’t stress how fun and profession Paul & Dave are to work with. They’ve captured what we were after entirely. I can’t wait for these videos to drop. (-Lewis Brodie)

How was the recording and writing process?
Fun, it was a real learning curve. It was a completely different process to the material we had written before as we were working with new members who bring loads of different things to the table for us. Over all I feel this was a maturing point for the band. (-lewis Brodie)

Yeah, that. (-Aaron Corrigan)

What role does The Devil Wears Prada and Underoath plays in your music?
The Devil Wears Prada are always approaching the genre from an interesting angle, and UnderOath really set a staple in this music scene. Each band combine raw emotion, singing and powerful energy. We simply hope to create something as genuine and honest as the bands we look up to, and take inspiration from. (- Lewis Brodie)

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yeah of course! Having said that you’d be surprised to hear how heavy our other stuff can be, but you’ll have to wait and find out! (-Lewis Brodie)

Any tentative release date or title in mind?
This year, we can say that. The album will be entitled ‘The Art Of Letting GO’

Any plans to hit the road?
Summer, watch this space.

What else is happening next in The Weight of Atlas’ world?
More videos, more music, more tours. You’ll see.
