PREMIERE: Hayley McKay Releases New Music Video For “Bottom Of My Heart”

Leaving the Alternative rock behind, this we are moving over to Darlington where we find Singer Songwriter Hayley McKay who is back with the release of the video for her latest single “Bottom of my Heart.” The song is filled with Nashville’s staple sound, blending rock sounds with Country melodies resulting in both a catchy and soulful track.

Hayley McKay’s second single comes all the way from Nashville courtesy of writers Bill Diluigi and Kimberly Paige. It’s a classic country track with a driving rhythm to which producer Matthew Parisi has added an edgy rock vibe.

It’s undoubtedly Hayley’s vocal, delivered with depth and an amazing maturity, that sells the song. The lyrics come to life and you can feel the emotion in every phrase. ‘Finding the right song to follow my debut single, Unspoken, was never going to be easy’, said Hayley. ‘But for me an upbeat, country track was the right way to go. The fact that it’s written by two amazing Nashville songwriters makes it really special – I just love singing this song!’

Hayley has performed in Nashville, played at Glastonbury, Cornbury and Northumberland Live and supported music legends such as Albert Lee, Skip Mcdonald, Tom Jones and Martha Reeves. She has achieved the accolade of having her songs played in Caffé Nero’s chain of coffee stores worldwide and is also a Prince’s Trust Ambassador.

Hayley also sit down with the magazine to discuss the process behind her latest single, new album and more!

Hi Hayley, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thank you. In a word, busy! I’ve just got back from London where I played a gig with the band at The Piano Works and now we’re flat out rehearsing for our headline gig at Durham Gala Theatre on May 13th.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “The Bottom Of My Heart”?

It’s an uptempo, country song with a driving rhythm. I really love singing it as the lyrics are clever and I can really relate to them.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Although I am constantly writing, I can’t take all the credit for this one. I’ve been lucky enough to work with two very talented Nashville writers – Bill Diluigi and Kimberly Paige for this single.

How was the video experience?

I really enjoyed making the video. We chose a number of different locations and images to try to reflect what the song’s all about. The video for the first single was shot in November up in Northumberland and it was literally freezing! This time we were mostly in and around Teeside and, thankfully, it was a fair bit warmer.

What was it like to work with Matthew Parisi and how did he influence the song?

Matt also produced the first single as well as co-writing it. He just gets my sound and how to record my voice to best effect. He’s given the song a real edge and put my vocal right out front to make it fly. Matt’s also producing the album.

What role does Nashville plays in your music?

It’s a huge influence. I went out to Nashville a couple of years ago to write and perform. I met some amazing people – I co-wrote a song with Jan Buckingham, who has written for iconic artists such as Whitney Houston, Melissa Manchester and George Jones, and I recorded with John Willis. I look forward to getting back out there before too long.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yep – I have an album ready to record which will be out in the autumn.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

No, not yet – but keep a look out, all will be revealed…

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m on the road most of the time! I’m playing a number of gigs and festivals around the country with the band over the summer and there’s also the promotional tours.  It’s a good job I like travelling!

What else is happening next in Hayley McKay’s world?

I love performing and I’m always writing new material. But most of all I’m really looking forward to getting into the studio and putting down the tracks for the album.
