Hi Soham, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey! Thanks for having me, I’ve been good thanks, yourselves?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Ecstasy”?
Sure, Ecstasy was a song I wrote just before New Year happened, I’d just finished it a few hours before midnight. We were going to a friend’s house to celebrate New Year and before we left I quickly recorded a piano melody, which was the intro and verse of the song. When we got there, I finished it fairly quickly.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not really, it was more looking back at everything that had happened last year for me, personally, and writing about a few things do to with that.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I think we do have something planned but I can’t say anymore than that right now!
How was the recording and writing process?
Writing it was really natural and recording was a blast! I met with a guy who had a home studio and we just had a great time piecing the production of the song together.
What role does Norfolk play in your music?
I haven’t been to Norfolk for a while now, but it’s mostly people and experiences that help shape my music. If it’s places, then they’ve got some special meaning to me or made me feel something really meaningful. I haven’t written about the fields of Norfolk yet haha!
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
The thing with a single which I’m not too keen on is that it’s just one song. I write all the time and I perform new material that I’m really proud of all the time. I actually just recorded an EP of unreleased material that might get left behind as for upcoming releases there’s usually lengthy promo campaigns and what not. It just felt a bit wasted not to take anything from the couple of hours’ worth of original material I have and release it. It’s what I did with my album two year’s back as well.
I’ve digressed! There is indeed new material coming along, always trying to push myself with my writing and my sound.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
I think the next single is for later in the year – possibly August – I’m really excited to get this produced and just see what happens really!
Any plans to hit the road?
Right now I gig quite a bit in Newcastle and occasionally London, I’ve had two headline shows up North and it’d be great to perform a headline show in London, which might be happening soon…
What else is happening next in Soham De’s world?
Just trying to live life really and to keep writing music I’m proud of that means something to me. I really wanna learn how to ride a unicycle so I might give that a go but my balance is dreadful.
