Lewisham-based MC Young Yizzy presents his debut EP, ‘This Is Life’, out 7th April via Samurai Sound. The 17-year-old continues to establish himself as one of the best up-and-coming artists in the genre, showing a level of maturity and diversity which has secured him a place in the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition final for 2017.
The anthemic title track ‘This Is Life’ channels a dark city energy with flawless flows, revealing his personal awareness and stunning song writing ability. The track is an introspective statement of intent, showing his desire to make something of himself and not end up locked away or dead on the streets. This sentiment is mirrored on ‘Signs’ as he passionately raps “I took a long hard look in the mirror like, I don’t wanna be facing time”. The next single ‘Bodied On A Beat’ displays an intricate level of wordplay and lyrical dexterity, mixed a confidence that is commonplace amongst the established grime MCs – reminiscent of Ghetts or Devlin. On ‘Buss’, Yizzy is joined by fellow Lewisham MC Tuckz; a regular collaborator where the pair’s chemistry on a track is evident, going toe-to-toe, spitting potent back-to-back bars on a hard hitting Mystry produced beat.
