US indie-folk singer-songwriter Marie Danielle will release her debut UK single Soldier on Tuesday 18th April. The song offers a perfect introduction to her songwriting talents and mesmerising vocals, and is lifted from the acclaimed recent album Hustler (which features The Felice Brothers and Fleet Foxes’ Christian Wargo on backing band duties). Soldier is here on Soundcloud.
Marie’s dark and intelligent songwriting connects with audiences through a naked honesty about love, loss and addiction. Within a year of her first live show, Marie was touring throughout the US and Europe and her song One of My Kind was featured on an episode of the Showtime series ‘Billions.’
“I’ve tried so hard to settle down, but the only thing I’m any good at is music” explains Marie when asked about the inspiration for Soldier. “When you’re in a different city every night, love is fleeting. That incessant march makes you feel like you’re fighting some kind of imagined war.”
Marie had played her songs in private until a brush with death in a violent domestic relationship lent her the courage to reach out to an artist she greatly admires, Simone Felice. Impressed by the magic of her track Tinseltown, Felice began a cross country collaboration that eventually led to recording sessions with his production partner David Baron in Woodstock. NY. With Marie’s friend Christian Wargo of Fleet Foxes also onboard for the sessions, what started out as an EP soon grew into a full-length record of timeless country and folk-influenced Americana songs which established her as a uniquely talented new artist. Currently recording new material with Drive-By Truckers bassist Mike Patton, Marie will soon be visiting the UK for new live dates.
