Hey! Thanks for having me. I’ve been doing alright – working on a lot of new music – working on my tan.. summer is coming fast and I need to be ready.
Can you talk to us more about your single “I Think I Love You”?
Sure. This was actually the first song I wrote for ‘Hola’. I kinda started it out for fun, and ended up liking it so much that I got really inspired and had a bunch of ideas flowing for the what turned out to be the rest of the project.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I think the theme of the song comes from that feeling when you really like someone, but you’re not sure if it is actual ‘love’ or not. Cause you can really care about someone a lot – and have a lot of feelings for them – but it might not be ‘love’. Sometimes that can get a bit confusing, and the other person might be feeling the same thing. So that’s kind of a little bit what it is about.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I actually did! I’m really proud of the video. My friends Connor Mccurdy and Derik Smith did the bulk of the work – but I think it came together really nicely. It was a long few days of shooting stop motion/light painting, but it was definitely worth it. I’ll make sure we send over a link so you can check it out! Watch here
The single comes off your new album Hola – why naming the album after this track in particular?
It just seemed to fit really well. One of the themes of the music is communication, especially communication between different languages. ‘Hola’ just felt like it captured the feeling and the theme of the EP really well.
How was the recording and writing process?
A lot of fun. That’s the best way I can put it. I was very inspired and wrote everything pretty quickly. I had my friend Alexandra Lemosle come over and do the french (and some spanish) vocal parts, and we just had fun with that. Then eventually went and tracked live drums on top of everything with my friend Jason Ganberg. Then finished editing and mixing.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Different things – life, relationships, friendships, Los Angeles, different people I know. It’s always different – it’s just about being able to observe and tune in to what seems interesting to you.
Any plans to hit the road?
I have a couple little shows coming up in LA. I’ve been putting the full band setup together for this new material. I’ll be playing May17th at The Study in Hollywood. If that goes well I’ll try and book some more shows and get some momentum rolling.
What else is happening next in Cody Crump’s world?
I am gonna be playing live a bit more. I have an EP coming out in July with my friend Danz of Computer Magic – it’s a little side project we have going, hopefully people like it. Other than that – just trying to finish up the new music I have been working on, and just keep going. Thanks for having me!
