Deep into the process of writing new music, Chicago crooner, Elijah Noll, has given fans a wavey new video for “Need U”, from his 2016 Delusional Mixtape, to hold us over. The video, which was directed by Erik Rojas and fittingly premiered on HighTimes.com, starts with Elijah plopping down on his couch and lighting a joint, thus sparking off an adventure through whatever happens to come across his television set. Elijah is hilariously inserted into a wide variety of programming; ranging from Japanese game shows to CNN to a dance party in an elevator while Larry David awkwardly looks on. The song itself is best summed up by the review on Kick Kick Snare that said “If everyone could just play this song, alone, with headphones on, a few times, then just maybe all this crazy shit in the news wouldn’t be happening”. You can watch the video now on YouTube or stream the track on Spotify.
There is a clear sense of diversity to Elijah’s music that is rooted in his background as a violinist (since the age of three), as well as, African percussion that started roughly around the same time in drum circles where he joined his mother. As a self-proclaimed “Pop Head” he was never one to get too consumed with one influence growing up, he would instead obsess over the best of an artist’s discography, two or three songs tops, before moving on to another artist. The result is, as Elijah puts it, “a melting pot of countless artists’ stand-out tracks, compiled into my head as a giant mixtape of sorts”.
On Delusional, Elijah masterfully balanced the ethereal with the bold. Through a wide array of timeless pop influences, he has crafted a sound that is equal parts smooth ambiance, hard hitting beats and raw vocals. The resulting soundscape coupled with a knack for infectious hooks has culminated in a distinctly modern collection of golden R&B burners. Stay tuned for new music from Elijah coming later this year!
