To say 8 House Records are making substantial waves in the underground house music scene would be a one of the understatements of 2017. Since their launch in February, they’ve released tracks from Son of 8, Tuff London and Charlie Hedges, all of which have smashed the Beatport top 100, as well as Traxsource and beyond. With the likes of Oliver Heldens, Roger Sanchez, Tough Love and Craig David showing massive support, there’s no knowing where the next releases could take them.
Up next on their hefty schedule of tracks is label owners Son of 8, who are also enjoying a period of success at the moment. Their radio show has just hit 6 million listeners in over 27 different countries around the globe, they’ve just confirmed shows at We Are FSTVL and Creamfields and they’ve just taken the energy levels up another notch with their latest production, ‘Higher.’
Dipping in and out of techno vibes throughout, ‘Higher’ demonstrates Son of 8’s versatile ability to weave in and out of genres at ease. Sticking to their classic house roots with solid, chunky back beats and crisp open hi-hats to complement the carefully placed claps and percussive stabs. The bassline rolls for days on this one, linking up each of the song’s elements in a subtle and intelligent manner, this is Son of 8 at their best. Col and Paul said:
“Higher’ was actually meant to be a commercial/crossover style house track using the vocal from an old vinyl from 22 years ago. But when we realised it wasn’t working over the music we’d originally made, we decided to turn it into a club track just using snippets of the original vocal and chopped up loops from our original track. It developed by accident but some tracks just work out that way. We think this is one of the best club tracks we’ve made to date and the reaction on the dance floor when we recently played it out was exactly what we hoped for. It went off big time!”
Giving the vocals both a melodic and percussive stint boosts the track with extra drive. A fist-pumping groove and a devastating drop that is guaranteed to get dancefloors shaking in no time. Son of 8 raise the stakes, ‘higher’ than ever before.
