RISING NEW ZEALAND ARTIST TAPZ PREMIERES NEW SINGLE “RUN DON’T RUN”

Introducing TAPZ, the New Zealand artist (formerly known as Young Tapz), by way of Zimbabwe who has kicked off the new season with his single/visual “Run Don’t Run.” The track, which premiered today on High Snobiety, is a crunching, sinister production laced by TAPZ’s uncompromising energy, acquainting us with his unique brand of forward-thinking noir’n’b. The visual, directed by TAPZ himself, accompanies the song with equal fervor and passion, helping TAPZ carve himself a spot on the artist to watch list this year. Speaking to High Snobiety, TAPZ explains the single is an homage to his roots. His parents moved his family from Zimbabwe when TAPZ was 10 years old because the political climate became too dangerous. “They left everything to give me everything. ‘Run Don’t Run’ is a note to self; a reminder. In the context of my vision, I must leave everything to give everything. The video is a visual representation of my journey to find fearlessness in a system where we are taught to run and to act without question.”

Born in Wedza, Zimbabwe and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, TAPZ first rose to notoriety last year with his viral hit “KILLA” – a three and half minute banger, which received a mix from Ricky Reed, with booming bass and synth drops. The single spread quickly with support from Zane Lowe and his Beats 1 show who adopted him early and played the track regularly. With his collaborative management deal between G.O.O.D Management and Control Music Group, TAPZ is also a sought after producer, who has written and produced tracks with the likes of 6LACK, Wynter Gordon, Vic Mensa, Hermitude and more. TAPZ’s music is born from the new flurry of trap rap and R’n’B; reenergized with foot thumping synths, 808s and powerful melodies – leading the charge of a new sound.
