INTERVIEW: Udi Levy

Hi Udi, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thanks for having me, I’ve been doing well, kept myself very busy with shows, promoting the new cd and working on a new material.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Addictive Substance“?

Addictive substance is a tune that deals with all addictions. Even though I’m maintaining a very healthy lifestyle of no smoking nor drinking I am addicted to the small things in life like coffee and making love.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Yes, anytime I’m drinking coffee or making love hahaha. Seriously, I was trying to capture what’s going on in someone’s head when they’re giving into their addiction.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, the video is done and been edited, waiting to be released.

Why naming the album after this track in particular?

I thought that this track is unique in sound and what it’s representing.

How was the recording and writing process?

The process of the recording was very easy and smooth. I was lucky enough to work with top professionals in the industry, musicians and sound engineers. Composing was smooth as well, with me it’s much easier when you have a concept in your head and I was lucky to have a strong vision for each and every song in the album.

What role does NYC plays in your music?

New York City is full of people and energies, obviously some of that got absorbed in me and translated into my music.

What made you want to do an instrumental record?

Since I was a kid, listening to a lot of instrumental guitar albums I realized that the guitar can sound like a vocal.  Not having lyrics in the tune sometimes can make it even better because each and very person can interpret the music the way he wants and take it to a personal level.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

In my personal life. I’ve been through a lot of changes, in professional and private life. Each and every event for good and for bad inspired me to write a tune about it and find closure.

Any plans to hit the road?

Of course! I’m playing as much as I can and I’m taking every opportunity.

What else is happening next in Udi Levy‘s world?

I’ve been focusing on promoting the cd lately which takes a lot of my time. Trying to compose new material, and do some session work for a few artists.
