INTERVIEW: Message From Sylvia

Answered by lead singer Matthew Nevitt

Hi Matt, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Great, Rafael – Thanks so much for talking with us!

Can you talk to us about your latest single “Right Here And Now”?  Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Every song is inspired by something right ? “Right Here And Now” is no exception. The song wasn’t originally meant for MFS. Although it came together quickly and turned into a powerhouse for the record. I enjoyed working it out with the Lopez-Smith brothers and Sahaj!  Pretty cool that it’s done so well at radio, we’re thrilled!

You made a unique looking video for the song “Heart Of War” – How was the filming experience?

Awesome! Tyler and his crew really killed it! We didn’t have a lot of time to accomplish the video, but we gave everything we had and I believe the outcome was well worth the sweat.  We’re psyched with the great response so far.

You are releasing your new album Message From Sylvia on April 7th – why did you decide on a self-titled release for your first album, as opposed to something else?

There was no better way to represent this album – this is our freshman attempt and we really want to drive the band’s name home to build our brand. We are proud of who we are and what this album became! Seriously, we named the project during the recording – It had to be this.

The album was produced by Sahaj Ticotin (Ra) – How was the recording and writing process?

I truly enjoyed every step of the process with Sahaj, he is a such a pro! He knows how to pull every last bit out of an artist… Not to mention he is an amazing singer, musician and songwriter in his own right.

Do the bands like Breaking Benjamin and Sevendust influence your music?  If not – what bands do you admire and draw inspiration from?

This record was founded upon the idea that we could bridge the gap in between what today’s scene teenagers like while meshing with the middle-aged generation. We listened to bands like Bring Me The Horizon and we modeled after bands like STP and Soundgarden. We brought everything to the table and didn’t stray away from any ideas.

Where did you find ideas and inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

We all had so much to filter into the lyrical writing process! It seemed we were all battling with some of the same insecurities. That is what made writing the record so simple, and yet complex at the same time.

You are currently touring with RED – Any other tours in the works for this summer?

Yes – we have a co-headline touring being routed as we speak. This tour will hit everywhere from the South to the East Coast, Midwest, AND the West Coast. We are really looking forward to announcing soon, stay tuned!

What else is happening next in Message From Sylvia’s world?  Anything you would care to share that you haven’t with any other publication?

We are working hard for our fans, and we appreciate them os much!!! We owe so much to our all of our supporters from our Pledge Music Campaign! It’s time to make the impossible, possible….  And we can do that with our fans continued support.
