Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Tears In My Head”?
“Tears” is a let go of the shit in your head kinda record. I think the most common denominator of why we all struggle individually is because we carry around a lot of made up fear in our heads. There are times I have to have a conversation with that mean voice in my head that tells me I need to do better or be something I’m not. It’s important, I think, for people to know they’re not a lone in that.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not a particular event, no. It’s just something that resonates in me and wanted to share. This career path I choice requires me to fight fear on the daily. That to me is rewarding and I’d have it no other way.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yesss. Not much to speak on that until I have more details though. So just stay tuned JJ
How was the recording and writing process?
Amazing. I worked with producer Cray and writer/artist A Strike Within, on this record. I was in the booth laying down melodies and “tears in my head” kept coming out of my mouth. It felt cool and ironic so I played off that. One of my favorite things about this song is that it’s alllll live instrumentation. It brings so much to the meaning of the song for me.
What role does Alicia Keys play in your music?
I loooove me some Alicia. I used to listen to her day and night growing up. It was an artist my mom and I bonded over. Her sound stood out to me in an insane way and has shaped the vibe I have today.
How has LA influence your sound?
Man… in a way I feel like LA raised me. I moved here on my own when I was 18 so it feels like I became a woman here. On my own, making what I thought were a million mistakes and getting to reeeeally know myself, the good and the ugly. That influences everything about me. I got to know me in LA.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material -‐ how’s that coming along?
Yes! I’ve been collaborating with different brands on new content for Tears as well as some insane remixes. Im really excited!
If so, any tentative release date or title in mind?
All are to be determined!
What else is happening next in Leonelle’s world?
Remixes are next! I’m focused on elaborating on “Tears in my Head” in as many different angles and forms as I can. Meanwhile, always workin on new music..
