WATERS have unveiled the video for power pop single “Hiccups”. The video premiered yesterday on Team Cocoand can be viewed here.
WATERS’ lead singer Van Pierszalowski says of the vivacious video, directed by Jonathan Chu, “It reflects the idea that life is inherently stacked against you, and the only way to get through it all is to embrace the fuck-ups, face-plants, and failed dreams as part of the journey. We wanted to make sure the video reflected the weird and fun nature of things while being aware that you will probably fail a ton on the way.”
The Californian 5-piece will release Something More! on Vagrant/BMG on May 5th, 2017, the band’s first release since 2015’s acclaimed What’s Real. Written and recorded over the past year in LA,following big-time touring runs with the likes of Weezer, Tegan and Sara, and Matt and Kim, the album came together after the five-piece band returned home and were forced to confront the day-to-day realities of everyday life, and the anxieties of the constant strive to find more meaning out of life.
Produced by Tim Pagnotta (Walk The Moon), “Hiccups” may sound euphoric on first listen – all chant-along vocals, adolescent angst and rowdy riffs – it finds Pierszalowski bellowing “I ain’t got no regrets…all my fuck-ups, all my hiccups, only brought me to you.” “I wanted to express that the fuck-ups and the mistakes are a necessary part of the struggle to figure shit out. Don’t beat yourself up about it so damn much,” he says of the Pinkerton-inspired cut.
WATERS’ new album Something More! will be released on May 19. The band will play Los Angeles on June 8 at The Roxy, with more summer touring to be announced.
