Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi VENTS, we’re great thank you! We’ve been extremely busy with preparations for our debut album’s release!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Moving Forwards”?
Moving Forwards is the leading single from our upcoming debut album Lessons Learned. It’s a song about just getting on with your life and moving onto the next chapter, cutting the ties between yourself the the past. There’s no sense in lingering in the past when you can make a great future and that’s what it’s all about. It’s a very positive track and we hope that a lot of people will be able to relate to it.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Originally Jez wrote the music in isolation and Danny added lyrics at a later date during a time when all of us as a band were going through a rough patch. We were too caught up in the past and needed to focus on our plan for the future, the track was written shortly after this realisation hit in and it helped us with progressing in a positive direction and ultimately shaped a large part of the album.

Any plans to release a video for the single?
We already have one out thankfully! There is a music video for the single on our YouTube channel at the moment and a Facebook version on our Facebook page.

The single comes off your new album Lessons Learned – what’s the story behind the title?
The album title Lessons Learned was chosen because every song on the album tells its own story and each one is about a different life lesson that has been learned throughout our lives. All of us had input in some form or another in the making of the album so it was very much a labor of love.

How was the recording and writing process?
It was a stressful and chaotic time, but also a fun one. Initially, we were supposed to be recording in a local studio in Saffron Walden, but unfortunately due to some last minute emergency building work we were relocated to Alchemy Studios in Wood Green. As it turned out, luckily this was a great thing for us and we ended up having the album recorded and produced by Kenny Jones. We found out Kenny had worked with Spandau Ballet, Robbie Williams, Bauhaus and other legends we grew up listening to, so it was a very humbling and sobering moment. We spent each day working hard in the studio, recording instruments one by one and then layering the vocals and sharing all our thoughts at the end of each night. In the end, despite making several changes and re-drafts, we were very happy with the finished result and we all agree that the record sounds like we wanted.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
A lot of the inspiration for the majority of the tracks on the album comes from experiences each of us had growing up or being in relationships and are feel-good, fun upbeat songs, but there are two tracks with a deeper and darker side ‘X’ and ‘Battle Within’ that touch on issues like mental health and love lost.

Any plans to hit the road?
Definitely! It’s just a matter of how and when! We’d love to set up a tour and we have some great promoter and industry contacts around the country, as well as some great upcoming pop punk bands that we’re friends with, most notably Home Wrecked, High Down, Peterpan Syndrome, One Way Street, The Bottom Line and Straight Jacket Legends so if we can get something set up with one or more of those bands and get things going, then we definitely will make it happen!

What else is happening next in A Few Too Many’s world?
We have a headline gig at The Portland Arms in Cambridge coming up on April 25th, which is for a really good cause raising money to build homes in Morocco and we’re being supported by two young promising local pop punk bands Sockets and Asbestos, so we’re looking forwards to a really fun filled and crazy night for that. We’ve also been booked to play Stage 2 at this year’s Essex Sausage & Cider Festival on Sunday 28th May where we’ll be playing a bunch of tracks from the album and then selling copies of the record afterwards. We’re planning an album launch night in May and we’re going to announce details of that closer to the time via our social media platforms and our website http://afewtoomany.co.uk
