Rock Legend John Mellencamp Talks About Keeping his Integrity in the Music Industry with Sammy Hagar

The Red Rocker (Sammy Hagar) heads to Bloomington, Indiana to sit down with John Mellencamp at the rock n’ roll renaissance man’s art studio, in this exclusive look at Sunday’s new episode of ROCK AND ROLL ROAD TRIP WITH SAMMY HAGAR PRESENTED BY MERCURY INSURANCE, premiering March 19 at 9pE/6pP on AXS TV.

During the discussion, the GRAMMY®-winning folk star opens up about his determination to stay true to himself while making his way in the highly competitive music industry, and reveals some important words of wisdom that have stayed with him throughout his career.

“I have always struggled with the idea of being a monkey on a string and keeping my own integrity, and doing it my way, and trying not to follow a path that others had laid,” Mellencamp says. “I got some real good advice from a really smart guy when I was real young. He said, ‘John, go where they’re not. Do what they’re not doing. Keep it small, but keep it going.’ Everybody else was trying to become this [big] thing, and I was trying to withdraw from all of that.”
