INTERVIEW: Toronto-based Artist EBHONI

Processed with VSCO with a4 preset

Hi Ebhoni, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello, I have been great!  Thank you for taking the time to interview me

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “What You Want”?

The song was actually written a few months ago and I felt it would appeal to females who have been in relationships and are in relationships and don’t feel appreciated because their partners don’t realize what they have…that happens way too many times.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Nothing in particular, but I see it all the time and definitely have felt like I wasn’t being valued in the relationship or that the person I was with didn’t realize what they had.  You know that old saying, you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

There are some visuals coming in the near future, we are just feeling out which songs.  I am actually really happy to see how well “What You Want” is being received, so maybe we may just have to shoot one for this track.

The single comes off your new album Mood Ring – what’s the story behind the title?

When I think of a Mood Ring, i think about how it reveals various moods that you experience and my EP does the same.  It shows many different feelings or emotions that may be provoked throughout and individual or relationships.

Would you call this a conceptual record?

I would say no, not at all.  I feel this record was almost like telling an all too familiar story.  Almost like sitting around with a bunch girlfriends taking about an experience and we all be like “that happened to me too and I get it sis”

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are covering someone else than when you are working on your own original material?

i don’t intend to, but i do find it more difficult to be super creative when something has already been done by someone else.  Especially when it is hot already.

Would both EP follow a different theme or are they following one story in particular?

I would say definitely a continuation of a story for sure…

How was the recording and writing process?

Very organic, the production assisted with bringing out the emotion and the songs were all written in a short window of time, so the songs really made sense and spoke to how I felt at that time

Any plans to hit the road?

Oh yes!!  More to come on that one.

What else is happening next in Ebhoni’s world?

More of everything, videos, music, shows, etc.  My goal is to be everywhere!!!
