“Say I Do,” the new single from emerging singer, songwriter, and performer Jonny P, premiered yesterday at Impose Magazine and is now available here.
The song is from Jonny P’s forthcoming EP, which will be released April 21 on Big Picnic Records. The EP was self-produced by Jonny P along with his guitarist, Goffrey Moore, and was mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Frank Ocean, Jamie XX, Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson) and features James Gadson (Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney, Herbie Hancock, Beck, BB King, Jamie Lidell) on drums.
In celebration of the release, Jonny P will perform at several showcases during next week’s SXSW. See below for complete details.
Already receiving advance acclaim, the acoustic video for the EP’s title track “It’s Our Time” recently premiered at All Things Go and can now be viewed HERE. Of the video, All Things Go praises, “Jonny P takes us back to the pure days of soul with ‘It’s Our Time,’ an ode to that love and happiness.”
“Suppose all music is apple pie,” says Jonny P. “Every genre is apple pie, but soul music is the only one that’s served hot with ice cream on the side.” He continues, “It’s so important to me to add to the story of soul music. I don’t want to create a record that has to go up against Sam Cooke or Otis Redding or anybody like that. If I tried to create some thing that sounds identical to them, I personally would never spin that record. It’s just a moment in time that can’t be re-created. Hopefully I can help carry it forward because more than anything else, soul music is about right now.”
Jonny P was born and raised in the Bronx and now calls Nashville home. In addition to music, he recently wrapped his first acting role in the upcoming film by director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal (who won Oscars for The Hurt Locker), a fictionalized chronicle of the Detroit riots of 1967.
