Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
We’re really good thanks; we’re pretty excited now that our new EP “The Squid” is finally ready and we can’t wait to see what people think.
Can you talk to us more about your single “You Gotta Be Squiddin Me!”?
You Gotta Be Squiddin Me! was intended to be the aggressive track of the EP, heavily riff based and generally good fun to play. We experiment with odd note groupings, time signatures and exotic note choices at times. The track has groove, melody, hooks and attitude!
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Not right now, but never say never.
The single comes off your new EP The Squid – what’s the story behind the title?
The Squid is the second part of a two part EP concept we had of an intergalactic battle taking place between a squid and an owl. The Owl being the first part; wise and powerful, manifests itself in the music in its confident and strategic build ups, and The Squid; sneaky and sly embodies itself in the surprising twists and turns, being the final part of the saga.
How was the recording and writing process?
Both have been great. The writing process has been very natural and fun; we’re open to each other’s ideas and we are very open-minded and accommodating of suggestions. The recording process felt more relaxed that it has been in previous times as, apart from the drums, we recorded it all at home so we felt we were able to take our time and not get stressed by the process.
Would this be a direct sequel to your past conceptual record?
The Squid is intended to be a direct sequel, yes. Back to back both EPs is a full length album in theory. Tracks blend into each other with subtle references to one another. The Squid EP has been carefully written to blend into the next project we are currently working on, The Debut Album!
Any plans to hit the road?
You will definitely get the opportunity to see The Parallax Method live in 2017 yes. With this band we decided from the start that after many many years of treading the boards of the independent circuit with our previous bands (Isolysis, Emperor Chung, Spirytus and Breed 77) that we would be particularly selective with the shows that we play. So far we’ve been incredibly lucky in that respect. Keep your eyes on our website for live date announcements.
What else is happening next in The Parallax Method’s world?
We have begun writing new music and so far have about 15 minutes of material (or two tracks) to go towards an album. We’ve not really set ourselves any parameters to aim for or any deadlines – we’re just going to have fun writing and see what happens.
Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been? We have been excellent. Things are …
