Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thank you! Yeah we’ve been great thanks! Little tired though, been in the studio all last week and just finished playing a weekend event with No Hot Ashes for ‘This Feeling’ which was insane. But we’re great!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Far Too Wrong”?
This songs sparked a bit of a chain reaction with us in terms of creativity and song writing. We are now currently writing more than ever. It’s an extremely fun song to play live and always seems to go down well with a new crowd. We’ve some great feedback from the song so far which we are really grateful and pleased about.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
A sudden change of thought process was the inspiration. The song represents a personal reflection back over the previous years where something was holding me back, which now doesn’t mater to me anymore. I find song writing quite therapeutic and this was a way for me to acknowledge that the past is the past and everything has changed for the better.
How was the film experience?
Filming the video was crazy! It’s our first ever music video so we were all a bit apprehensive at first. It’s quite an odd experience singing into a camera which is being held by someone you met the same day. However, a few hours in and we were loving it and can’t wait to do more! Callum from CSD videography was a right laugh and dead easy to get along with, so he made the whole experience great.
How was the recording and writing process?
The way we usually write is I (J) will write the back bone of the song (IE rhythm guitar, lyrics and the initial melodies). This then gets taken to the rest of the band and gets moulded by all of us and tweaked so that we can all express what we want to get across within the music.
Recording the track was fantastic! Callum Benson from CB Audio did the whole thing in 2 days and is absolute maverick. He made us all feel very comfortable and made the recording really enjoyable and creative. (We seem to gravitate to people called ‘Callum’)
What role does Biffy Clyro and Royal Blood play on your music?
Massive Riffs, Massive Choruses.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
It does indeed! We are currently in the process of recording some new tunes with Callum (CB Audio Callum) which we are really REALLY excited for everyone to hear!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We don’t have a title as of yet, however, we are aiming to start releasing some hopefully in the back end of April.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yeah, we’re currently trying to set up a little tour at the moment. We are playing a few gigs in Sheffield and Manchester over the next couple weeks, but after this we are going to try and get a full run going.
What else is happening next in Matter Of Mind’s world?
We’re playing Dive in Manchester next Thursday (9th March) with Liines and Ist Ist, which we are buzzing about. Then Sheffield’s West Street Live on 5th Of April along with a few other Stockport and Manchester Gigs which you can see on our social media pages and our Website http://www.matterofmindband.com
