Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey – Thanks for having us. Apart from fixing a problem with our washing machine Im good.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Gone Solid”?

Gone Solid was one of the few songs we had finished before the actuall recording sessions. We tend to not write songs in a chronological way and thats also the case with this one. The riff in the verse is maybe about 2 to 3 years old and the rest followed about 1 year later. Originally this track had more parts but they got kicked out with the time. Anyway – This Songs sums up our music cuite well and is a good introduction to our album «Flügge»

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

The music in general doesn’t evolve out of a concept but the Lyrics have a nice story. My Girlfriend always wanted to see me without my beard so I shaved for her birthday. That day we where on Tour and i came to her place at 6 in the morning. She was still a bit drunk and couldn’t believe her Eyes. She loved it but I felt pretty strange in my Body Over the next days i not just realized how different i look but also how my face expressions changed without the beard. Suddenlw i looked so fragile, unsure and sad. I guess a beard can create a certain veil over a part of your face and make you look more like a Teddybear. Thats where i got the idea for the Lyrics.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

No we didn’t plan that but there is another one coming.

The single comes off your new album Flugge – why naming the album after this track in particular?

The Lyrics of « Flügge » represent the Album pretty well. Also the music of this song represents the connection but also the break between our first album and this one.

What’s the story behind the title?

It`s about beeing connected the whole time but at the same time beeing disconnected from life. It`s about the huge stream of information that rushes down on us every day and that we want everything instantly at the same time. Its about being dependent and feeling free at the same time. This fits to a lot of people from our generation and it also fits us in parts of course. Thats the General feel of the Lyrics on “Flügge”.  In German Flügge means “ready to leave the nest”.

How was the recording and writing process?

we recorded everything by ourselves and that was the best decision we made. At that time we were sharing a Studio with « Oracles » and « Suns of Thyme ». Unfortunately we had to move out but at that time it was perfect for us. We recorded, mixed and wrote most of the Album in 1,5 months and than i headed off to france with my love. We tried to use as less effects as possible. Most of the Reverbs on the Voice you hear on this record were recorded in a empty room that gave a natural feeling for room. Of course we had to overdub a lot cause in the end we are just 2 people but the guitars and Drums were recorded live. Once everything was build up I just had to hit record on the table i put next to the drumset.

How did Berlin influence the writing on this record?

Berlin didn’t influence this record int he same way like it did on our first record. But your surrounding always influences what you do and it doesn’t matter if its Berlin or a 500 people Village. Most of the Lyrics have something to do with our personal social surrounding which we wouldn’t have if we wouldn’t live in Berlin. Vegans, Lazy Students, Hedonists, Arty People, Homeless People, Real Artists, Fake Artists, and and and. But in the end this record is more of a self-study than a social-study unlike our first one.

Would you keep blending different genres on this material? Any plans of introducing new styles?

There are now plans. we will just head the Studio and record with a free head. But we would sure love some Strings.

What things did you get to explore about yourselves on this album? Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Inspiration comes when you sit in a bar, when you are in asia or simply when you are just laying in your bed. The Inspirations came from everywhere. Anyway – the deadline we had through our label forced us to have ideas and get inspired. sometimes this works, sometimes not. Luckily in this case it worked.

Any plans to hit the road?

We are on tour again in March and than we are on a lot of Festivals this Summer.

What else is happening next in Odd Couple’s world?

We want to build up a solid Studio for recording and just making music with our live-Bass and synth player « Cult Hands » to be able to drop a lot of material and explore different styles of writing. We will record another Album this year and release some still pretty secret stuff ;).
