Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Excellent! Busy writing new music and touring, keen to be sharing new content and music with you soon.
Can you talk to us more about your upcoming single, “Stay”?
We are so excited to be releasing Stay early next month on April 5th. We have been itching to put out new music for a long time now and we are really happy with how it’s all come together. Our new sound is a mixture of fun pop melodies and energetic production while trying to keep some organic elements like guitar and drums in there.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I wouldn’t say a specific event, but it’s definitely a feeling we can all relate to– Longing for someone to close and not wanting them to leave when you know they have to.
How was the recording and writing process?
We typically write a foundation of music and production for a song before we add melodies and lastly lyrics to get a good feel for how it sounds. Then it’s always great to take it to a new set of ears that can work things from a different angle.
In this case we recorded Stay and the rest of the EP here in Australia with a friend of ours and great producer Andy Mak who we have worked with multiple times. Andy is one of those producers that always knows what is missing in a song just to give it those finishing touches.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Most definitely. Last month we were lucky enough to experience Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah where we played a number of shows. One gig in particular, in a small town called Provo, was so much fun we decided to make a live video out of the footage that was captured.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album? How’s that coming along?
We are hoping so, but that’s definitely the plan at this point. We have some great new music ready to release and we are going to get back in the studio soon to finish off the album. We don’t want to rush anything unless we are completely happy with it.
Are you taking a different direction with your new material?
Short answer, yes! I think every time we come up with new music it changes in different ways. Personally I think it’s always been the same direction, just growing and evolving with how we write, what we listen to and where we want to be.
Any plans to hit the road?
Quite soon actually, we will be doing a small tour up the east coast of the US through March before coming back to Aus for another run of dates in May. We are aiming to be on the road as much as possible over the next 12 months really.
What else is happening next in Drawing North’s world?
We are currently in the process of getting our US visas approved. Once that happens we will be able to relocate to the States for up to 3 years. So America might have 3 more Australians causing trouble in the near foreseeable future!
