INTERVIEW: Seven Day Sleep

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been great thank you! Staying super busy and excited putting together our first EP and working away with what’s to come next for Seven Day Sleep.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Red Lipstick Murders”?

This song is about being yourself proudly. Fighting with the social judgments and sanctions. When you listen to the lyrics you can see how it’s telling a story about a witch who’s coven has been slaughtered by the other citizens just because they’re were witches. And the witch telling the story is the sole survivor and she decides to take vengeance upon the criminals by kissing them with a red lipstick and throwing their dead bodies to the bottom of the river. So the general idea of the song is everyone goes through rough situations in life and we all have fear and get judged but you can “kill” those negative things and push them aside to keep moving on with pride.

Red Lipstick Murders is the first single we have released as a band and in the first week alone we got 20K views on YouTube so we are very excited to share what we have in store next. The support has been amazing so far so thank you to everyone who has been listening and spreading the word!

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Well the name of the song is from an episode of the PS game “L.A. Noire”. In the game; “Red Lipstick Murders” is the name of a serial homicide case. The episode has a different story line than the song but we still fell with Red Lipstick Murders being the title for our single.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! We shot a beautiful, creepy  Horror video with Little Sky Films and we can’t wait to release it. Our Director Dan Kennedy and Producer Rasa Partin Did an amazing Job!

The single comes off your new album A Home For Disgusting Fairies – what’s the story behind the title?

We wanted the title to represent our sound and who we are as people so A Home For Disgusting Fairies really is representing a place that anyone can belong because we truly believe everyone is beautiful in some way and people would love to argue that but it’s all a matter of perspective.

Being in a judge free space where you can be truly be yourself, be free is so important. We wanted to use the fairy as a creature to represent beauty and disgust because all over the world you will see different representations of a fairy and yet they all are a part of this fantasy world. It’s like our music, even with our heavy, grungy “disgusting” parts it’s also sometimes the best and most beautiful part of the music.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing proses was completed in Turkey where Can and Okan wrote the EP and the everything besides the vocals were recorded at Spider Studios in Cleveland Ohio. In LA Sofia joined the band Can and we recorded vocals at MDDN studios in Los Angeles.

What role does Switzerland and Turkey plays on this record?

Well Can and Okan are originally from Turkey and our vocalist Sofia is from Switzerland. Since the EP was written by Okan and Can you don’t really see any Swiss influences in there but that’s not the same with the Turkish elements. In the Ep you can really hear a lot of rock, metal and grundgy sounds but when it comes down to vocal melodies and some symphonic sounds and keyboards the Turkish background is really present. This is one of the things we love most about our band is that we are able to put the typical Rock7Metal genre and blend it with cultural sounds.

What disgusting fairies did you get to explore on this album?

Well when releasing something new for the world to see that is so personal you’re going to always be dealing with the fears of judgment, will people like it, what are they going to say ext.. And so for us to keep going we have to learn to deal with those inner fears and keep moving because at the end of the day we believe the music is great, its speaks to us and even though it’s got that fuck you factor, it’s also beautiful.

Any plans to hit the road?

For now we are playing around Los Angeles and California since that is where we are located but you never know what opportunities life will bring you so if we get the chance to hit the road for our fans we definitely will.

What else is happening next in Seven Day Sleep’s world?

We have a video coming out soon for our single we will be doing some local shows we will be announcing shorty and filming some exciting stuff in the studio.
