Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi VENTS! So glad to connect with you, we doing great thank you! Enjoying the summer in the Southern Hemisphere at the moment.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “This Water”?
This Water is actually one of the first songs that Evelyn Hart ever wrote, and the band ever worked on together. It’s one of our favourites to perform live, and also a crowd favorite.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Evelyn’s approach with writing is always very personal; speaking to the inner journey that every one must go through.
How was the film experience?
Filming This Water was a mind-blowing experience. We did so many things outdoors, from camping out in a forest overnight to riding horses on the beach, to filming underwater. We also worked with a fantastic director who gave us lots of confidence, and was an absolute dream to collaborate with – his name is Rash Ferguson.
The single comes off your new album Fury – what’s the story behind the title?
Evelyn wrote the track after watching the unrest in Syria unfold. It speaks of the impact war has on innocent civilians and is an emotive expression of the observer standing in the desolate remains. It’s also a plea for change and surrender.
We went for a more minimalist arrangement. Vintage mid-century, post WW2 string sounds and lo-fi vocals backed by glitchy digital crackles, warm pads and longer reverb tales.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was a life-changing journey, in that it was the first full length body of work that we have all created together. It took us time to experiment and find a sound that is uniquely ours, and the process began with Evelyn writing the first drafts of the songs on a piano. Brendyn and Tristan, both being producers, were able to take those raw songs and start shaping it into what you hear today.
What aspect of fury did you get to explore on this record?
It was a musical and emotional experience. We hope that we were able to make people think on the record, and also FEEL – our goal is to take people away and help them see pictures and be a part of a story.
Any plans to hit the road?
We will be heading to the UK in July to continue writing and working on new music. It has become an annual migration for us as band, where we find that a new environment enriches us and prepares us for new things as well as inspiring us and enjoying the music industry in other countries.
What else is happening next in The WINTYR’s world?
We will be releasing a new single and a new music video before the end of March, as well as the international release of our album by March 10th. It’s such an exciting time, as we prepare to share our music with people around the globe.
