INTERVIEW: Adrian Underhill
Hi Adrian, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Not Good Enough”?
On this song I wanted to explore vulnerability and also this feeling of not being able to live up to expectations.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Not any specific event per se. Certainly, for me, creating music can bring these thoughts to the surface more easily. I was also realizing that these feelings seem to have resonance for a lot of different people and perhaps this shared experience gives us a unique opportunity to connect with one another.
How was the film experience?
Creating this video was really exciting. I worked with a couple good friends from university, Pablo Alvarez-Mesa, who directed the video, and Davy Bisaro who choreographed the movement. All of the costumes were built from scratch by the three of us.
How was the recording and writing process?
Making this record was a huge learning process. I took my time writing and recording and I’m really proud of the result.
What was it like to work with Kindness and how did that relationship develop?
It was really interesting to work with Adam and have a whole bunch of new ideas and influences injected into the songs. We basically spent 5 weeks starting with my demos and ending with the almost completed tracks.
How much did he get to influence the album?
Adam brought a lot of great ideas about drum sounds and programming. He also had a strong vision for how to mix programmed elements with live musicians.
How’s your new album coming along?
Great! We are just finishing mastering now and I am currently working on album art. I’m really excited to get this music out into the world.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Neither of those things are set in stone yet but stay tuned 🙂
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes! I’m definitely hoping to spend some of this year playing these new songs live.
What else is happening next in Adrian Underhill’s world?
Keep your eyes open for a remix!
Hi Christopher, welcome to VENTS! How have you been? I’ve never been better. Or older. …
