INTERVIEW: Jet Black Alley Cat

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’ve been great, thank you for having us!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Golden”?

I think ‘Golden’ was exactly what we needed right now. It’s probably the most pop song we’ve had since our first release ‘Poison’. When you’re doing things the way we have done them, one song and video at a time , it’s important to find diversity. To take people on a journey and build that relationship with a well-rounded group of songs. With ‘Golden’ being the last single of this group of songs before the record , we feel it was the perfect combo of everything we had put out up until this point.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I think it was a combination of experiences and a product of our culture honestly. This idea of everyone craving and wanting more and falling in love with an expensive way of life. Those elements just kind of accumulated around us and were a big influence on not just this song but a lot of our songs. We knew exactly what we were writing when we started ‘Golden’, and it has been a joy to see it blossom with our fan base.

How was the film experience?

It was a lot of work but a ton of fun. Finding the right location to execute the vibe of dance we wanted was crucial. Luckily we had a connection to great people who helped us make it happen. From the friends who spent long hours in the decorating process to everyone who was a part of the filming, it truly was a wild experience. This video is just another example of the JETBLACK world we are building. And saying THANK YOU again here to everyone who was a part of it is something we can’t pass up. So thank you !

How was the recording and writing process?

Our process of getting to where we are has had its ups and downs , but it’s been SPECIAL . When we started being a band 2 and half years ago we had no idea who we were or what we were doing . Song by song we started to grow and find ourselves. We learned how to write in new ways , how to execute in studio , and most importantly we were starting to find out who we were and what made our band different from others. I don’t know if the way we’ve done things is the best way, but I wouldn’t trade our process for anything. Without it we wouldn’t be JETBLACK.

How’s your new EP coming along?

It’s so close to being done! And that’s such a good feeling. Right now we’re wrapping up the final song and focusing on the details and threads of each song from top to bottom . We care so much about getting it right , and cutting corners has never been an option for our band. So finishing strong is what’s important right now. But we couldn’t be more excited!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The title is to be called ‘PART ONE’ . It signifies this beginning portion of formation of Jet Black Alley Cat . As for release date it’s looking like late April early May .

Any plans to hit the road?

Look for a run happening in April , a different run happening on the East Coast in May , and then possibly a bigger run West for the Summer . There are a lot of moving parts and opportunities for us currently . So we’ll see .

What else is happening next in Jet Black Alley Cat’s world?

Finishing the record and wrapping up tour dates to follow  is what’s most important right now . We are continuing to add new ideas to our merchandise. We recently created our own turtleneck line surrounding one of our singles that were sold for the Winter months . We value those types of things. We hope it shows the people who follow us that we care about giving them MORE . So we are working on a couple other ideas in the merch realm . But this is an exciting and busy time for us so I’m sure you will see plenty over the next few months . Stay tuned lovers ????
