Magic Giant Announces Debut Album “In the Wind” to be Released May 19

Today, LA-based alt-folk trio Magic Giant, announced their debut album, In the Wind, to be released May 19 via Washington Square/Razor&Tie. The album was co-produced with Ben Allen (Walk the Moon, MIA, Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective). A new version of the song that put their name on the map, “Set on Fire,” which reached #4 on Spotify’s US Viral 50 and amassed 4 million streams in less than a year, is also re-released today. In the spring of 2016, Austin Bisnow (lead vocals), Zambricki Li (banjo, violin, harmonica), and Zang (acoustic guitar, cello) welcomed nature into the fold as their unofficial fourth member.Magic Giant converted a shuttle bus into a solar-powered mobile recording studio and set out to record In the Wind. “There were spaces of time between shows where we could get creative,” explains guitarist/cellist Zang. “Using the bus to power microphones, we recorded outside – literally In The Wind – across North America.” Inside a Redwood tree off the coast of California, within a tunnel by Snoqualmie Pass, on an airstrip in Marble, Colorado, and in a wild daisy field near Crested Butte are just a few of the places the trio recorded their debut. The instrumentation includes (get ready…) orchestral drums, banjo, trumpet, saxophone, harmonica, synthesizers, electric bass, cello, viola, violin, dobro, lap steel, mandolin, and more. The three band members found themselves serendipitously through social media, and when their virtuoso talents were combined it created a sound that was incredibly vibrant and booming with life.

Since finishing their LP in “The Bunker,” their Silver Lake, Los Angeles studio, the band has been performing their exuberant music for festival stages at Electric Forest, Wanderlust, and Lightning in a Bottle, and sold out shows in legendary rooms such as the Troubadour and Mercury Lounge.

In the Wind threads together a musical cartography of alternative, pop, and folk. What the world needs now is LOVE, and Magic Giant is here to spread the word.
