INTERVIEW: All Ears Avow

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Pretty good thanks. On the road at the moment having fun playing shows every night!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Hurricane”?
Hurricane is a really refreshing song for us. Usually our singer/guitarist Claire writes pretty much everything, but this one came from Jake with Claire mostly just writing the lyrics and melody. It’s up beat, positive and about love so it’s just a real feel good song for us that’s enjoyable to play and listen to from all aspects.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
There wasn’t really a specific event that inspired it. But mostly just a general observation of how apathetic and selfish society can be and it’s kind of a message that rather than focussing on the negatives and waiting for things to happen, giving love out and embracing life makes for a better world for everyone.

Any plans to release a music video for the single?
Watch this space 😉

The single comes off your new EP Edge of This – what’s the story behind the title?
Edge Of This is the title of one of the tracks on the EP. There’s a few running themes throughout the whole record and the track ‘Edge Of This’ really kind of encompasses all the elements in one and in the most positive way. It’s about unconditional love and letting someone you care about make their own mistakes… there’s a line – ‘I’ve been standing on the edge of this just watching all the world unfold’ that just painted such a good picture in our minds that it made sense for it to be the title track.

How was the recording and writing process?
We’re very DIY. Our singer Claire is a producer and engineer so we’re lucky enough to be able to record everything ourselves.. So we’ve spent the last year writing and churning out songs that we’ve come close to releasing and then just deciding it wasn’t right. And we really wanted our next release to be as strong as possible so we kept holding off releasing anything. Then we took a big break from playing shows at the end of 2016 and all of the sudden all of these songs started pouring out that we just loved. So in the end it became really organic and they practically wrote themselves.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Everywhere and anywhere really. For me (Claire) I can’t really say I write specifically based on my own personal life. I quite like music to be a detachment from that so I actually   like to take a wider view on stuff and I’ll probably draw more from something I’ve seen on the news or an article I’ve read on the internet. I end up writing in a more hypothetical way that can be applied into so many different situations that way. I love that music and lyrics can be so open to interpretation.

Any plans to hit the road?
We’re actually on the road right now, we’re currently answering these questions while sat in a bowling alley trying to pass a few hours waiting for our next show! But we’ve got loads of dates coming up all around the country this spring.

What else is happening next in All Ears Avow’s world?
We plan to spend the next year touring everywhere we can and hopefully getting over to Europe. We’ll be writing lots behind the scenes as well as we’re always looking to the future and how we can better ourselves and our music. We thrive off of being busy so we plan to stay that way!
