Matt Damon ’s Very Thorough Movie Preparations

It’s that time of year again when the big movies do battle in the box office as the Oscar season approaches.

One of the more interesting movies is that of “The Great Wall” starring Matt Damon – which may be nominated for a few Oscars but seems less likely to win any than some of the more obvious candidates this year. The critics have not been particularly enamoured with this movie. But what few people realise is how accomplished an actor Matt Damon actually is – and how much he puts into the roles he plays.

In The Great Wall, he plays a warrior who is part of a mercenary group during the Song dynasty in China around 1000 years ago. This kind of movie may be standard Hollywood fare, but the actor has an interesting “method” acting history which he brings to each role. Perhaps most notable amongst these was his 1998 role in “Rounders” as the poker-playing Mike McDermott.

This film is often credited with helping fuel the boom in online casinos during a time of the burgeoning web just before the turn of the century. The actor researched the role thoroughly, getting through $25,000 at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) – where he was eventually busted out by poker professional Doyle Brunson. Since then, Damon became a real convert to the game, taking part in other WSOP tournaments as recently as 2010.

Since the Rounders time, the online casino world has boomed beyond most people’s most optimistic expectations. Today, it’s a huge global and highly competitive industry – so knowing where to play has become problematic for some players. In fact, that’s how casino review sites became so popular. Case in point is the Casino Shark site, which features detailed reviews of various online casinos, picking out the best the net has to offer. The ComeOn casino review takes an in-depth look at games, software, loyalty programmes and bonuses etc., as well as other areas of interest to players such as the live casino, mobile apps and other areas before coming to a conclusion of the pros and cons. This kind of information is invaluable to online casino players who don’t want to have to try out endless different sites before finding the one that works best for them.

It’s also useful if you’ve never played before and want to dive straight in – having a go on a site that has “passed muster”. Whether Matt Damon plays poker online can’t be known – nor whether any other celebs who are known to enjoy playing the game, like Ben Affleck, do so. But what is known is that Matt Damon’s movie preparations are thorough, to say the least. What’s more – there have been various rumours around that the actor is considering a sequel to the Rounders movie – in which case a more accurate portrayal of poker today would surely have to be online – at least in part.

The original movie, which also starred Edward Norton, was based on two friends who have to earn cash quickly in order to pay a large debt – and choose poker as the best way to achieve that. “Rounder” refers to a players who move from town to town looking for big poker games. So today, there would be no great need for him to do that – so who knows? But if it was to be an accurate portrayal today, he’d probably be playing on his smart-phone from, well, pretty much anywhere!

Also, the original movie ended well – but also saw Damon’s character on his way to Vegas to enter a WSOP event, so the stage is very much set for a sequel 20 years on. We wonder how the actor would prepare this time around?
